This movie is horribly underrated. If Disney films don't follow the lovers cliche, it almost seems as if movies like Treasure Planet and Atlantis don't get the deserved recognition. Sad, but true.

Silver recognized the importance of the situation. He knew at that moment Jim needed help. A boy growing up without a father's guidance. He needed to be told to stand up for himself. Never doubt himself. Never give up. He saved Jim in this scene. What a powerful moment.

What kills me is that I think Jim never really felt he had to succeed to feel he was worth something—he just needed to know someone believed in him. And this was when he knew someone did.

This scene always gets to me. Every young person needs a parent or role model to remind them of their importance and potential. If they don't, they'll look for acceptance in all the wrong places.

Silver is the absolute badass with the heart of gold.

Silver is one of my favourite villains of all time. He is one of the few 3-dimensional Disney villains with character development. You see both the good and the evil side to him, and his relationship with Jim's is wonderful. It manages to portray more than the classic good vs. evil plotline that we see in so many Disney movies. It shows the father/son relationship between Silver and Jim forming, and how that relationship could soften the heart of even the most greedy of pirates. Its beautiful.

It's things like this that truly make Disney the wonder that it is. You have a notorious pirate reassuring a distraught boy who feels like he failed everyone around him and he not only says that the boy is going to be something great, but that he has so much faith in him that he hopes he's there to witness his triumph because it'll truly be amazing. Hearing that from anyone, let alone someone you look up to, can really make a difference for someone. Moments like this are what Disney is to me~

When he said "I hope I'm there catching some of the light coming off you that day" as a 26 year old man I cried thinking of father figures that believed in me
