Sunny’s Easy 7-Layer Gyro Dip
RECIPE COURTESY OF SUNNY ANDERSON
Level: Easy
Total: 40 min
Active: 30 min
Yield: 6 to 8 servings

Ingredients

Lamb:

1 tablespoon olive oil
1/4 cup finely grated white onion (on the smallest holes of the box grater)
1 large clove garlic, grated on a rasp
1 teaspoon chopped fresh oregano
1 pound ground lamb
1 teaspoon kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper

Layers:

8 ounces roasted garlic or red pepper hummus
4 ounces feta, crumbled
4 plum tomatoes, seeded and diced small
1/2 English cucumber, seeded and diced small
8 ounces tzatziki dip (store-bought or homemade)
2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh dill
Pita chips, for serving

Directions

For the lamb: In a large pan on medium heat, add the olive oil. When it begins to swirl, add the onion, garlic, oregano, lamb, salt and plenty of black pepper. Combine the ingredients, breaking up the lamb while cooking, until it is browned, about 10 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon to a paper towel-lined plate.

Layer the dip. In an 8-inch square dish, layer in this order: Spread the hummus on the bottom, then sprinkle evenly with the lamb, feta, tomatoes and cucumbers. Spread the tzatziki dip over the top and sprinkle with the dill to finish. Serve with the pita chips.

I'm 58 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, we are finding it impossible to replace it. We can get by, but cant seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 40years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for

I can't wait to make this, but I may add some lemon zest, and Juice to the avocado for a bit of brightness.

Looks delicious for a game day appetizer!

The fruits and vegetables weren’t diced small enough for the dish to be a “dip” - I can’t imagine scooping a cucumber the size showcased!

I love chick peas but I am not a fan of hummus. Love gyros so I try this.

If you have to eat it off a plate with a fork, it’s not a dip.

Wondering what changes to make, if any, to make a heated version? Probably just me, but I can't stand cold ground meat (even if it was hot when first added to cold ingredients).

The stupidest episode I’ve ever seen is where Anderson and Guarnaschelli are discussing healthy recipes.
What a joke!

Really a 6 layer dip. Herbs should not count as a layer. Would have been better to call it a six layer dip to contrast to the standard 7 layer dip. Better marketing. ^-^

Sunny has good ideas but her execution is often flawed.
