It's a lot more complicated than this, Rob. YouTube uses Adwords for ad bidding. There are some keywords in Adwords that are worth $1, 000/ click and they're not in the finance or making money niche.... it all just depends on how much the advertiser is paying for that ad spot, and what keyword or video they're targeting....it's not really a "you get pad ____ per 1, 000 views". YPP and Adsense reports just average the pay out as a CPM for statistical tracking purposes. It determines how valuable content is based on how people are bidding to get an ad spot in front of their content. If you're not that popular, and there aren't as many people bidding to get ads in front of your content, the lower the CPM will be than if someone who was really popular and in demand (like Taylor Swift or the Super Bowl).... my CPM would be $13 compared to Taylor Swift who probably has a CPM of like $50 because she's in higher demand and it's harder to get a spot on her content.

My current CPM is $13.05. I make mountain bike videos and my audience tend to be middle ages guys. ...but my view count is really low so my guess is my sample size isn't big enough for that CPM to be meaningful yet.

No... your wrong, CPM is what people are willing to pay per 1000 ad views. RPM is what the content creators actually make per 1000 Ad views. RPM It's supposed to be 55% of the CPM in the U.S. but I've seen much lower percentages. Not sure how they can get away with that considering Google got paid, and aren't giving the proper % to the content creators, but it is happening.
