Royal Purple is an excellent oil, but you should use the manufacturer's guidelines for weight. Honda recommends using either a straight 30 weight oil in warm areas, and a 5W-30 weight oil in cold climates. A 20 weight oil is too thin to use in an air cooled engine. You can use a 10W-30 in mild climates or in the summer as well. You will shorten the life of the engine using the wrong oil.

Don’t listen to all these “experts”. It’s a Honda you could put vegetable oil in it and it’ll run. Just kidding but no you won’t do any damage using that oil. I’ve used Mobil 1 5-30 for 15 years on my Honda gen and it still runs like the day I got it

You can find the motor oil standards on the back of the oil bottle. There really is not difference in the premium brands Amsoil, Royal Purple except price and marketing. Honda does not recommend using synthetic oil until after 100 hours of use to allow the rings to seat properly. Synthetic oil is too slick at first.

I am a fanatic about my Honda machines and change the oil on average after about seven yours of use. Even if the machine runs for fifteen minutes I change the oil, clean the spark plug, clean the spark arrester and drain all fuel from the system including the tank. I also fog the cylinder to protect against rust.

Used oil left in the machine can cause damage to the oil level sensor and basically gunk up the machine. When needed I want the machine to start and produce power asap.

Personally I think Royal Purple and Amsoil are a waste of money, but do what you think is best.

Agreed, you should really use 5w30 or 10w30. And Frankly for a fresh engine, synthetic oil is less effective for engine break in.

I checked the Royal Purple website and could not confirm that this oil meets the Honda "SJ" requirement. Hopefully it does. But after 46 years of extensive involvement with engines, I sure as hell would not assume that. Secondly, if you are such a fan of the product, why not use 10w-30 as specified by Honda? Royal purple do offer that grade.

Royal purple is excellent oil but I would be more concerned about the gas you use in fact I wouldn't even put regular gas in it the only fuel I would use is vp fuel 94 octane and no ethanol

10w30 is the good stuff, and standard (non synthetic) for initial break in
