The Blackadder grew progressively smarter as his character fell lower and lower in status with each series. Genius.

Rowan Atkinson’s enunciation is the perfect way of delivering his jokes. It adds so much to it. And calling Cpt. Darling ‘Darling’ provided so many great opportunities. What a show.

Naming captain "Darling" was a stroke of comic genius.

The 'darling' joke in this series just never got old. If anything, the longer it went on the funnier it got.

Fell in love with British wit and humour with Blackadder. Never have I ever seen something so good again.

Blackadder was a genius concept and Atkinson masterfully embodied each generation so that it truly felt like a different person. Classic

“Aah without doubt my favourite magazine. Soft, strong.. and thoroughly absorbent.”

That is one brilliant line! Blackadder never gets old.

"Without question, my favourite magazine; soft, strong, and thoroughly absorbent."
"Chop-ho, Blackadder; I thought it it would be right up your alley!"

Stephen Fry is just so good as Melchett, a great performance in all episodes.

"Would this plan involve us climbing out of our trenches and walking very slowly towards the enemy?"
Probably the best description of trench warfare ever

I love that part at 1:38 when darling changes his hands from behind his back to putting it onto the desk just like the same way as the other 2

Incredibly there were only 6 episodes in this series. Definitely at the top of its game for wit, humour, sarcasm and poignancy

It was GENIUS writing to get Fry to reprise the role as Melchett... A PERFECT example of the bumbling, incompent and totally detached from reality type of commanders in charge of that awful war.
Grumbling, old, upper class monsters who had NO idea that warfare had changed. Who would shoot a completely psychologically destroyed 'Tommy' with shell shock for 'cowardice and bad form'.
Who would be 35km from the front in a very luxurious office with valets and who would get furious because the troops wouldn't happily run towards the 'Hun' with their machine guns. Who were ravaged by disease and stuck in the mud and cold and swarms of lice and rats...the blustery old Melchett and his type would be wondering why they haven't advanced... 'no fighting spirit' probably the answer...
The phrase 'Lions led by Donkeys' rings very true.
Mechanized warfare with the horrors of chemical weapons, machine guns and incredibly vast amounts of artillery and these 'leaders' expected it to be over before Christmas.
Melchett is the PERFECT personification of that type.
