A DISTURBING Film Based on a Terrifying TRUE CRIME!

Join me as we tackle Angst, Gerald Kargl's fictional recreation of the home invasion murders committed by Werner Kniesek.

Released in 1983, Angst is based on a true crime, features a tour de force performance from Erwin Leder, was banned throughout Europe, and killed director Gerald Kargl's career. Oh, and Irreversible filmmaker Gaspar Noe loves it.

And I love it too. Angst is not just another cash grab based on a true crime. This one's a really good film with a harrowing tale that takes us inside the mind of a madman. But can Angst earn 5 barf bags on the gore card? Tune in and find out!

this film is one of the only ones who doesn’t romanticize the killer; he’s shown as creepy, messy, gross, and clumsy. loved it!

The camera work on Angst was phenomenal. They used a lot of tricks that were extremely new to cinematography at the time. The whole movie is shot so it feels like you're seeing the world through his eyes yet it's so voyeuristic at the same time, in an espionage type surveillance kind of way. Absolutely amazing film.

“Do you have my Precious?” “Dr John C Riley is on the case”. Three minutes in, and I’ve laughed harder than I have in two days. Thanks Mike.”

This is actually one of my favorite movies of all time. Not because it’s a feel good movie of the year, but because it’s so innovative from a cinema standpoint. The cinematography is so ahead of its time. You genuinely feel like you are with the killer. This is true cinema.

For those who wonder. _“Angst“_ is german and means _“fear“_ .

I've always appreciated how cleanly shot this was, even for being almost a forty year-old production.

Honestly these are much more terrifying to me then being stalked by a supernatural monster or a killer clown or dude wearing someone's face and chasing me with a chainsaw, because this is much more likely to actually happen...and did.
It's the crimes committed by people who seem normal and don't really have a motive and are mostly random..that's the stuff of nightmares.
Thanks for covering this one ❤️ this movie needs more love then it gets.

"The good news is he looks totally natural"
After this review I have to see my copy of Angst again.
For me with just the tunnel stabbing and the killer's behavior is enough to give him the 3 barf bags. This is a good movie with gore scenes, not a gore movie with good scenes, and I love it.

This is definitely a sick flick in a different way, I wouldn't call it gory but it's very disturbing.

That whole breaking and entering aspect of the movie reminds me of this time before the plague when I caught someone trying to break inside my old family house. I must've been like 17 at the time. I still wonder what would have happened if I hadn't opened my door just in time to spot the guy cutting through the lock.

This was a shocker, I never thought Angst would be on your list, you certainly made it more interesting Mike.

When he goes back to the diner and the same exact people were there wearing the exact same clothes I thought for a minute he might have dreamed the entire thing from his cell.

I love at the end when everyone is just standing there after he opens the trunk and that woman is just standing there with her plate of food like “What you all looking at? Hey have you guys tried the giant sausages here?!”

The scene of him waking up bloody and naked is still one of the most disturbing moments that just sticks with me.

Another awesome video. I'm always waiting to hear, "Christ I'm old" and "hell yeah". Never disappointed. Oh, and the dislikes are from people to young to remember Agnes Moorehead.

This also inspired Henry: Portrait of a Serial and The House Jack Built.

I've been waiting all day to watch this! Great work, Mike! I had heard rumors of this one and finally tracked down a VCD of it a few years back. The main thing I'll say is the atmosphere and dreariness make it very disturbing. The gore kind of takes a back seat to just this feeling you know bad things are going to be happening. And they do!

A lot of times, these kind of films kind of have a leering, exploitation feel to them. They're there just as much to check out some Damsel in Distress scenes with starlets as to watch psychos at work. This one is cut from a different cloth. Kind of the same one as movies that came out later like Human Centipede 2. They're just grimy and nasty to watch. You're not waiting for a great kill. You're kind of rooting for the victims to escape.

This is definitely a good one for fans of true crime/ brutal horror to check out. It does it's job. It IS kind of similar to Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. But if Henry was even more grim and had no black humor to let you get a release from the tension ever so often. Fans of one will probably like the other, though.

The realism in this one makes it pretty intense. Like the fact that the killer is a complete moron and constantly botches everything he is about. But not in an exactly funny way. I think that is why I was thinking over and over: "If you play it right, you can get away from this guy. He's full of himself and totally psychotic, so you can use that to your advantage." He's definitely not some powerhouse invincible murderer or suave, slick killer. He's just a nut who's been holding it in and waiting to unleash it again. Honestly, this film is the poster child for anyone that is a proponent of the death penalty for homicidal maniacs. I mean, a gangster or thug might change their ways after some time in the clink. But a psycho killer is just thinking day and night about what they'll do if they get out. Might be doing the world (and them) a favor by just putting them down. That is a discussion for another time, though.

Awesome work, Mike! This is a fairly obscure classic, so it's nice to see it getting the Horror Geek treatment. You're the first on the block to talk about this one on Youtube, as far as I can see.

This is crazy after some research I found out, that these events took place about 5 minutes walking distance from where I live. The diner where they caught him is located next to the road I take to to get to work every day. Thanks Mike. I had no idea...
