🚨 English words they DON'T teach you! - British Slang 🇬🇧

In this lesson, you will be introduced to British English slang, basically informal vocabulary that is commonly used across the UK.

These slang words can often be overheard in conversations on the streets in London, on public transport, and in movies. Some of these words and expressions are NOT appropriate for polite or formal conversation, but they are fun to learn and useful to know in order to understand popular culture from Great Britian!

So, if you find yourself confused when speaking to a native Brit, check out these 12 words (that they definitely dont teach you in English class! 😉)

As a native Brit I give this a 100% thumbs up. I would also add that in the North of England people address each other as 'love' or 'luv'. This is used to strangers when being friendly as well as amongst people who know each other. Women say it to men, other women and children. Men say it to women and children. But men don't usually say it to other men. In the north east of England where I come from a similar word, used in the same way is 'pet'.

Great lesson. As an American English speaker, I learned some new words today. Btw for non English speakers, in America, mate is your spouse or significant other.

Thank you for sharing this ...some I knew like mate, brew, innit.etc. but some I didn't like " bloke, skint, minging " these are not taught and despite one knowing English reasonably well, words like these can make one feel " always deficient "

Thanks a lot for teaching British slang words, being a British. I think it's easy to learn English language from a British but tough to learn the different words, accent, slang from an Indian who knows British English.

I never realised how lucky I am that BBC One airs in my country as wel. Learned a lot of slang watching British programmes.

A very welcome addition to learning English through video games and films

Would you care to elaborate on how to make a proper cup of tea (the British way, preferably) while we are at it, Chris? Cheers, mate!

Thanks mate! Had a highschool classmate who’s now living in England; shared on FB how she’s having tea with the fam bam.
Reminds me of 🎶Tea for Two🎵 song 😁

Cheeky and mate are used in america, but not as often as the alternative, bro or dude. And now sus could mean cheeky, depending on the context.
