Have you ever used teak oil on planters?

Until recently, I didn’t think much about using Watco’s Teak Oil to finish these planters – I assumed it was just used for exotic furniture and denser woods, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I was asked about its waterproofing abilities. So I put it to the test. Below the blue tape, I applied teak oil. And above, I left it untreated. The beading is what we’re looking for. Amazing! Now only if it could repel my electric bill. The water soaked in where it was untreated – this can accelerate the weathering process.

Unlike a deck or fence sealer, teak oil will need to be reapplied a little bit more frequently. But I would love to hear your thoughts. What might you use and why? Share in the comments below.

Hello from Belgium 🇧🇪. My husband uses linseed oil. It's non-toxic, gorgeous, smells great and works like a charm on all wood - as far as I know.

I have a teak dresser purchased in Denmark in 1965. I have been using teak oil on it every several years and it is in perfect condition. I found a good, inexpensive teak oil on Amazon.

I used to oil my dads boats with teak oil and it and I always remember getting an immense feeling of satisfaction out of the process.
Something special about the wood itself.
I seem to remember that stuff being hella expensive though?

I teak oiled all my (teak) furniture, it gives it a nice rich colour... Then it all went mouldy... Turns out teak oil is food for mould and mildew and is very controversial in the furniture industry

What's the best, long lasting wood sealant to repel water? I'm building a feral cat house for a colony and I want it to last as long as humanly possible while still being safe. I'm using old wood pallets to build it since I basically have a free, unlimited supply because of where my fiancé works.
