Warhammer 40,000 part 2: chipping and rust

Sorry guys - I just made the switch from one video edit package to another so the sound levels are wrong and I somehow lost the backing music.

The start of the 40k weathering process, using washes to achieve some rust streaks and some pigments to get some rust effects going on.

Quite a persuasive argument towards the use of acrylics for weathering - with convincing results. Outstanding.

@TheSunsAnvil

they are from the Model AIR range - they don't need thinning at all, they go straight into the airbrush

@svinehunden I use Vallejo Air for brushing. It's like pre-thinned versions of the other paints. I even use it for figures.

I try and stay away from Tamiyas now, they are temperemental !! Some times they work well, others they don't.

For some washes, I use thinned Acrylic and add a drop of micro sol decal fluid to really kill the surface tension.

Fantastic video, I'm thinking of starting a traitor guard army so I'll need rust galore.

@svinehunden hey K man, it's CAPILLARY ACTION. Basically it is that effect when you put a wash on and it kind of creeps along. It's also the same effect that pulls glue along part joins.

@tordenskrald

hahaha, I am from the Black Country, near Dudley. My accent is much stronger than in the voice-overs, I put on my "phone voice" as best I can to try and keep it understandable for all the guys overseas.

@TheNocturnalStudios

Yeah I just masked it off and sprayed it with a quick coat - it'll get covered with mud anyway

@ScaleModelMedic How long would you leave the gloss and matt varnish for to dry?

That was a fantastic tutorial...thanks for sharing your experience and that great model...I really appreciate your effort in posting them up...Are the varnishes pre-mixed for the air brush? I have no experience with the air bursh, but have a very basic one to try and see how much trouble I can get into :)...these kind of vids inspire folks to try something differnet and unfamiliar...please keep posting...thanks...Jim.
