Spent some time in Tennessee, Nashville. So I understand a lot of these. Holidays in Georgia, Florida New Orleans and more recently Texas. Always say that Southern hospitality is no myth. NYC well let's put it this way. Been there not going back. But I do intend to go back to Texas...loved it!

Some are similar but all sound so much better spoken in your southern accent. The unfamiliar ones I'm going to adopt lol. Thanks Mr EB👍

The Southern American variant of English is a valuable addition to the English language. And from the sound of it your average Brit and Southerner would get on like a house on fire.

O grew up in a community in Northern RI that has deep roots in French Canadian culture. It wasn't unusual to hear expressions like "park our cars side by each", "next time you cut through my yard...go around!", and "throw the baby out the window a kiss". Oh, and my favorite from my Jr. High Vice Principal..."Did you just come in from out?"

Hissy fit is said in NZ.Its good to hear you local phrases. My grandmother used to say, Douse the lights.she was born in 1910 when they had gas lighting. To tell the time, five and twenty past, instead of twenty five past.was another phrase she used.

Southern US accents are Smooth listening and the Grammar " where your walking at ", " Real Quick ", "Drinking on " is wonderful, apparently we dont think in words we use words to transmit concepts to each other to be turned into thoughts, and for me those southern accents are very soothing . Everything is huge in America and the distances take longer to travel, so there was no need to exaggerate stuff so words are more considered, and heeded,

Hi EB interesting that your moonshine is called “white lightening” here in the UK white lightening is a brand of cheap cider usually drunk by alcoholics and homeless ppl with alcohol problems. It comes in big 2 litre bottles and has zero percent apples in it. My friend calls it trampagne.
Enjoyed Charleston .would like to see a plantation or if you have such a thing nearby. Cheers

Most people who live in English speaking countries will understand most of these. We will also have used or heard very similar sayings ourselves. Sweetheart, darling, babe, I only use for loved ones. Just as my family have always done. My favourite is, it's over bills mums.

Here in Oklahoma we use a few of these. We aren't in the Deep South but we use some of the words! Interesting video.

We have basically the same saying about pigs in the U.K. - if someone is "happier than a pig in shit" they're completely in their element, very happy with the situation.

I've been to NY and LA on business a hundred times but me and my wife had been on vacation across a lot of States for several times. As you can read right now I'm not that good at writing in English but I'm fine talking to y'all. Except in Southern States. You're all patient and gracious enough to guide us through everything but you could do a "beef cut" guide. I'm from Brazil (no, I did not vote for that... thing) and like Argentinians we don't "soften" our meat like you do, we like it how it is.
