Every car I buy is 5 years or older. This video warms my heart seeing how much depreciation I have avoided

36 years old married with 2 kids. Had my back against the wall never had car payments but our old reliable finally met it’s end. It was so hard to navigate the car market in one of the worst times in history to “buy” a car. Jumped on a 2011 Honda accord with 110k miles from a trusted dealership. Was laser focused on Hondas and Toyotas. Pretty much anything that will hold it’s value the life of the loan if you’re financing.

I bought a new Toyota Camry in 2012 for 17k and drove it for 10 years. It had been wrecked 3 times so it wasn't worth anything and it had 160k miles on it when it got totalled. The other insurance company paid me 10k for it. I believe that I did good.

I will never again make the mistake of buying a used luxury car. Bought a 6 year old 5 series and that sommabish cost me so much! Lexus was the only one I had a great experience with and that’s close enough to luxury for the price for me.

Just want to say THANK YOU! I only discovered your vlog 3 days ago, and educated my self in leasing a new car in 72 hours. I listened to your vlog continuously on those days to prep myself, and it made me feel empowered to deal with the dealership on my own. Highly recommended! Thanks for your work!

So in other words, after 5 years these vehicles are finally worth what they're truly worth

Thanks for an excellent video. A lot of good information in your video. Your descriptions of loss in value for vehicles: example: "the boat anchor of sedans" so appropriate. Carry On Sirs!

I usually buy certified pre-owned coming off a lease with around 35, 000 miles. Can usually get them significantly cheaper than sticker price and they are still under warranty

Personal experience: I bought a brand new 2018 370Z “Heritage Edition” for $33, 500 cash, out the door. I got T-boned in March 2023 and the car was declared “totaled.” I owned the car four months shy of 5 years. The insurance company wrote me a check for a little over $32, 000. I drove that 370Z for 56 months for around $1, 000. True story; the BayArea.

I bought my Audi s4 cpo 3 years ago...happy as a clam. Drive it everyday. No regrets. It's probably down right now in this market but who cares...you only live once. Buy what you like and can afford

Most useful would be to throw out the outliers - cars that sell only in limited numbers and cost within the first standard deviation from the mean selling price of those vehicles. Many of the top 10 of the best and worse listed are not commonly of interest to normal car buyers.

I hold my cars 10+ years so deprecation value doesn’t really bother me.
