0:00 Intro
Since the weather that day wasn’t very interesting, I decided to create a black and white photo with a strong contrast. Besides the black and white editing process, I also had to fix the vertical lines which were distorted due to the wide angle lens I used, also I wanted to add a subtle glow just above the horizon. All the editing was done in Adobe Photoshop.
0:34 1. Basic Adjustments
First, I activated the B/W process, then activated the lens corrections. I played around with the white balance temperature until I found something that looked pleasing to me (for black and white photos the temperature of course doesn’t change the colors of the photo but changes the contrast throughout the image). Furthermore, I added extra contrast and slightly increased the whites. To then get some nice detail, I added texture and clarity.
2:34 2. Local Adjustments
I wanted to make the sky a little more interesting, so here I used a graduated filter and dropped the exposure for the very top of the photo. To add the glow above the horizon I used a thin radial filter and increased the blacks and whites and dropped the dehaze. Another radial filter was added over the board walk in the foreground. Here I added more texture and clarity.
3:43 3. Final Editing
In the transformation tab I used the vertical slider to fix the vertical lines until they appeared to be straight to counter the lens distortion. Also, I added some vignetting, then continued with the final adjustments in Photoshop.
First, I got rid of sensor spots using the spot removal tool. Then, I added some more glow above the horizon with a hard light and soft light layer and a white brush.
