Animated Map Shows How World War I Changed Europe's Borders

World War I involved 32 nations from 1914 to 1919. It redrew the world map and reshaped many borders in Europe.

The collapse of the Russian Empire created Poland, the Baltics, and Finland. The Austro-Hungarian Empire dissolved into Austria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, and Yugoslavia. When the Ottoman Empire collapsed, Turkey was established. The German Empire became Germany, and Germany lost substantial territory outside Europe.

There were also small border changes on the Bulgarian-Serbian/Yugoslavian border and Belgium gained some land from Germany, but those are small details. Good video!

So, So, SO many inaccuracies. Please include all border changes when you make a video, because some were crucial, like Bulgaria's losing of its Aegean Sea connection, or the Polish Corridor being thicker than an inch.

A quick correction, the islands on the Aegean sea and the Mediterranean Sea do not include on the newly created Turkish republic's borders.

Wrong the German empire did not become Germany, it became the Weimar Republic.

East Prussia should be red, like germany since it was part of it.

Mistakes:
1. Memel belonged to Germany before WW1, before being annexed by Lithuania
2. You preceded to call Russia "Russia" after WW1, even though it's the Soviet Union/USSR
3. You forgot to draw Finland's border
4. You didn't mention that Poland, Italy, and Romania got land from Austria-Hungary
5. You didn't mention that Serbia annexed Montenegro, Bosnia, Croatia, and Slovenia, and created Yugoslavia.
6. You didn't mention that France annexed Alsace-Lorraine
7. You didn't mention that Belgium and Denmark got some land from Germany.
8. You didn't mention the Bulgarian-Yugoslavian border changes and that Bulgaria lost access to the Agean sea.
9. The Polish, Russian, Czechoslovakian, Romanian, Lithuanian, Latvian, Estonian, Hungarian, Austrian, Italian, and German as well as countless others borders looked very sloppy.
10. The Polish Corridor is too thin
11. You didn't mention that Romania got land from Russia
12. You forgot East Prussia is Germany in the end

The eastern border of Poland is wrong, the border shown in the video is after the Soviet-Polish war of 1919, not after WW1.

I know they included it on the the final map, but they really should have specifically mentioned the French re-annexation of the Alsace-Lorraine region.

You forgot to draw Finland’s borders. But this still was a good video

and WW2 changed that map again and then USA changed the map again and then Russia took Crimea and changed the map again. There are many countries around Europe atm who are very unhappy with the outcome of WW 1 & 2. It will never end!
