4:35 Shortcut E (Extend Selected Edit to Playhead). THANK YOU!!! I've been meaning to figure out how to do that. The description always made me think it was just for lengthening clips but you inadvertently showed me that it's also for trimming. I know that wasn't the focus of this tutorial but that was my happy takeaway.

I'm working on a drone-only project right now where I wanted to use some speed ramping and other slow mo. This will make the difference. Thanks!

for a long time we have been looking for a solution to switch video from 30 fps to 25 fps and to have a cursive image without frame breaks
thanks, for the trick, you're the best

hey.. thank you for this video.. What do you think about twixtor ? It would be great if you can make a comparison between twixtor and optical flow and which one is best in certain circumstances.

Just clarifying if you're saying that optical flow has improved with the 2019 update or has it always been good and we've just been wary of using it? I ask because I've tried using the 2019 version and it's just buggy as heck. The 2108 version seems to work better for me, but random things seem not to work well in the updated version. Great video as always. Cheers!

Thank you for this! Quick question when rendering out the video in media encoder there's also an option there for all 3 (frame sampling, blending and optical flow). Does it matter which I choose when rendering out the video?

Thanks for all the very well explained video's you make!
Can i ask, what's the difference between optical flow added in the timeline and optical flow set in the export menu?

Keep up the good work!

Hi Colin, thanks. Another useful tutorial. Is that CC2019? I have been using OF in CC2018 for sports action slow mo replays with mixed results. I have only just upgrade to v.13 and wonder if it’s been improved upon in that version?

TL;DR: My suggestion: DON'T use optical flow on humans, just landscapes and objects. I've yet to find an instance where it beat sampling or blending when showing human beings. It also hurts rendering speed.

Full comment:

First off, LOVE your tutorials Colin. I would be so incredibly pleased to get my business to the level where I can teach others in the manner you do.

In regards to optical flow, your tutorial is fantastic but it shows a very rare instance where it works. It would be interesting to see a similar clip with the effect applied, where the water is moving at a high rate of speed.

One point to add from me on this - I think it would look even better if the adjoining clips were also slowed down, at least to 85%. I've tested optical flow quite a bit and it is more trouble than it's worth in 90%+ of cases. Oh and it adds to rendering times.

hahahh Colin when the optical flow portion was playing you sounded like Bob Ross of Premiere Pro

Kind of impressing how you can make a video this long without saying anything of value. I'm not even mad, that's amazing.
