"Sway" is a song by New Zealand singer Bic Runga. It was released as the second single from her debut studio album, Drive (1997), in 1997. The song peaked at No. 7 in New Zealand and No. 10 in Australia, earning gold certifications in both countries. At the 32nd New Zealand Music Awards, the song won three awards: Single of the Year, Best Songwriter, and Best Engineer (Simon Sheridan). In 2001, it was voted the sixth-best New Zealand song of all time by members of the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA).
It wasn't a song I took much notice of at the time, but it stuck in my mind when it was on the soundtrack to the hugely successful 1999 movie "American Pie". The movie soundtrack peaked at 50 on the Billboard 200 chart giving "Sway" further exposure.

There are 2 videos for this song and for some reason this one is NOT on the official channel. In it, Bic, who was no doubt named after either her old mans shaver or the pen near the phone, decided to stalk a guy who works in a small store. Maybe that's why it's not on the official channel with stalking going right out of fashion these days. I actually had a stalker myself in the early 90's, quite an interesting experience watching a girl lurking behind shrubs in the garden every day and night. I didn't even know her, apparently she saw me and decided I was it.
I thought she had given up as I hadn't seen her for a while, but unfortunately a girl found out the hard way she was still around. I was walking across the road with this girl (not the stalker, one I was was about it) when suddenly the stalker came running out of nowhere and king hit her nearly knocking her out. Strange days them 90's.


The video, which I recorded from Rage a while ago, has been given a nice pleasant nice make over. It is now smoother with less noise but is much sharper. I gave it a little boost of color (should I do that ? I am a color blind) with minor adjustments to exposure and contrast. The original audio was given the flick for a replacement lossless .flac replacement that sounds much nicer, in fact I though it was the wrong track as I could clearly hear things that I didn't think were on the original. I checked and they were in fact there, it shows how worn out these old videos can get both audibly and visually. I was temped to do it in 4K, but was just happy with how it came out @1080 so left it at that.

When I was a young obnoxious metal guitarist, we went on stage at the Smokefree Rockquest (college music comp) right after her and I said to her “Well, you gave it your best shot…” She finished third and became a worldwide star (rightly so) and I’m a truckie who can only dream of being in a pub band now ha ha. I’ve since apologised to her but I still find it funny.
