@The Story We Write

Hey Everyone! ) I’m Anna and welcome to my channel. Here, I post some useful information for English learners. I’m from Ukraine and I’ve worked on my English and accent, for the most part, on my own, but you can find out and trace my story by watching my videos. I’ve been studying American pronunciation for a long time, and I still do, and I guess I always will – because it’s not math. Learning a language, it’s a lifetime journey. I know exactly what it takes to become fluent and acquire an accent in a non-English speaking country, and I’ve never even been to one. And I’m sharing this information here – on my channel.

in brief: The video is about the method the host, Anna, uses to enhance her English vocabulary.
Anna emphasizes the importance of learning vocabulary in context rather than memorizing random words. She shares her personal experiences and examples to illustrate her method, which is learning new words as she encounters them in her daily life, especially after moving to the U.S. This approach helps her understand the usage and context of new words, making them easier to remember.

She gives examples from her life, like learning the names of various kitchen items (sink caddy, skillet, dressing, seasoning, sifter, strainer, dish drying rack) and actions (sifting, spreading) through real-life experiences and interactions. Anna highlights that understanding words in context, asking questions when unsure, and being in situations where one needs to use these words can significantly aid in remembering them.

Additionally, Anna introduces and demonstrates the use of the Elsa AI app, which allows users to practice English conversation in a simulated environment. The app provides realistic conversations and feedback, helping users improve their speaking and conversational skills in English. She engages in a role-play scenario with the app, showing its effectiveness in language learning.

Anna also suggests that if one doesn't have someone to practice speaking English with, they can describe their actions to themselves, either aloud or in their mind, using the new vocabulary they've learned. This practice helps in reinforcing the words and their meanings.

The video concludes with Anna encouraging viewers to try these methods and share their experiences, emphasizing the practicality and effectiveness of learning vocabulary through real-life usage and context.gpt4

I've been using ELSA AI to practice my spoken English recently, I totally feel this is my English savior that I've been searching for a long time!! A person like me as an introvert always struggles to have small talk with people, but ELSA AI lets me let go of those hastations and makes me relaxed to express my thoughts in English, which is soooo helpful.

Your final thought is a gem; that's why your daily life videos are the most treachery ones. Not the English Language study but Real life and daily real situations. We all should start from that point and not learning vocab about uncommon topics.

I am an intermediate level, but I would like to improve my English knowledge. I will try to use the last piece of advice you gave us. It actually seems very reasonable to me to improve my English vocabulary. Do things and think in English about what you're doing. Sounds good!

Wow! I'm so impressed with your English. I'm slowly picking up some Arabic words via the methods that you've described here. Lately I've been taking pride in being able to describe things when I don't know the word for them. For example, if I don't know "sink caddy" but I can say "the thing that goes by the sink, where you put soap and brushes, " then I consider that a win! But like you pointed out, after having to do that a couple times and being corrected with the correct word, usually it sticks! Also, sometimes I can guess at the words...after knowing paper and paper towel in Arabic, I was able to correctly guess the name of toilet paper. The more we learn, the quicker the pieces seem to fall into place!

I like this concept of remembering words. There are so many such words so it becomes difficult to remember all of them. These days, we can google them using image mode, this gives instant result and other items as well.

I feel stupid right now, I thought you were a native english speaker and I had that background thought that you wouldn't be able to understand fully the struggle of someone who's learning English as a second language. But then of course (just a few minutes ago) I realized you were actually from Ukraine and it honestly blew my mind. Both your accent and your speaking skills are spot on, that's definitely very impressive.

Прекрасное произношение и дикция. Слушаю на скорости 1.75 (как и весь контент на ютуб), при этом понимаю абсолютно каждое слово и все сказанное вцелом. Написал бы на английском, но ушел бы час, английский у меня слабый.

What you're so saying is so true! I remember back in the day when I was still illiterate.I used to learn words in isolation but it was incredibly hard to use those words in a conversation.

I decided to read books in order to enhance my sentence construction and confidence. I was so amazed at how quickly my English improved when I used that strategy.

To date, I still read books, listen to podcasts and use the new words immediately that I come across. They become imprinted in my mind easily, and I can use them spontaneously at will.

As an intermediate English learner, I find your last piece of advice quite compelling. Actively using English by thinking and performing daily activities in the language appears to be a sound strategy for enhancing my vocabulary. This approach resonates with me, and I'm eager to implement it.
