Have you ever poured dish soap on your firewood? That's why you have to do it!

Do you have a fireplace or wood stove? Then you probably have firewood lying around somewhere. Ideally, it is stored and dried. You should never use wet wood. Wet wood produces a lot of smoke, does not burn well and can even damage your fireplace.

But what does all this have to do with washing-up liquid? It's quite simple. Wood contains various pores and small channels. When the wood is still wet, these are blocked by the water. However, when the wood is dry enough, the small channels are all clear.

This means that you can put a little washing-up liquid on one side of the wood. If you then blow hard on the other side, small bubbles should appear on the side with the detergent. This trick can help you check whether your firewood is dry enough.

Of course, you don't have to do this with every piece of wood. But it can be useful to do it occasionally in a pile that you have left to dry at the same time. So be sure to give it a try.

Dish "soap" is NOT soap; it is detergent. Chemically a completely different animal.
