Fun note: the actual Tabletop games of Warhammer 40k and Warhammer: Age of Sigmar don't involve base building AT ALL. The focus instead is on strict Unit counts-lists for armies to compete against. Your victories are tied to the control of certain points/locations (CP) on the map, as well as performing said side objectives, and killing enemy units/heroes to gain Victor Points (VP). SO yes, it "can suck" how there isn't basebuilding in Realms of Ruin and it has a strict Unit count. But you know what else didn't have basebuilding? Dawn of War II. It also instead relied on Unit list management...which Realm of Ruin is kind of doing here as well, aka like the tabletop (sort of). Look, I hated Dawn of War III like the next person, but so far of what I played in the Demo of RoR, I wasn't immediately put off by it as it mostly reminded me of DoWII or Company of heroes more than anything, . and those where very strictly Unit-squad- maintenance with a VERY strict amount of unit variety at launch. And Speaking of DoWII at launch, ideally only 4 factions...and it worked just fine. RoR does have some finicky stuff for sure, but it's not literally a MOBA-focus like how DoWIII was. It actually feels like a game one could tactically control their units, and not just rely on grinding mobs to level one hero unit over and and over again.

Yes the small variety of Units is an issue, but starting off with 4 factions seems good enough for a new RTS-ish IP in my opinion. Funny how we didn't complain back then when WCIII "only had 4." Or how Blizzard just stuck with it's original 3 factions but divided up the story up into three games for Starcraft II. You have to start somewhere first, guys...and video games take years to develop and balance. try to keep that in mind before wanting to rant. Also no mention of the Eternal Conquest? I was curious if this mode would contribute to more replayability or not.e

This game revolves around Company of Heroes mechanics. I don't really know where the MOBA stuff comes in. It focuses more on tactics versus economy - aka base building and workers. I don't know why this is so confusing to people unless you haven't played RTS games. Lol

Isn't 4 factions the standard for a game like this? Dow 1 and 2 both had 4 at launch, total Warhammer 1 had 5, but one was day one dlc. Asking for 8 factions on day one is just kind of crazy to me honestly. Like I get it you want more stuff but you gotta keep realistic expectations lol.

This is not a moba. Seriously, guys. Dawn of War 2 or CoH aren't mobas either. LoL, Dota, Smite, those are mobas. Multiplayer online battle arenas. This doesn't even remotely remind me of mobas, which are generally multiplayer team based and require twitch reaction speed, buying items, player vs. player interactions, and having neutral minions push for you ... none of that seems to be the case with this game, so I'm really not sure why you're calling it a moba...

My one issue with things like this is when people say I wouldn't buy it until more factions come to the game....Kind of shooting yourself in the foot on that one. If enough ppl don't buy it and there's not enough interest in the game then they're not going to add more factions to the game.

Ya, not seeing where it being like a MOBA really comes in, plays like COH and DOW2, plays a lot more like a table top game than the base building RTS, has capture points for victory points and side points for reasourses while trying to control 12 or a little more units with most having 1-3 moves each to keep track of. Also, you would be hard pressed to name a RTS with the quality look of this one with more than 4 races on launch, wc3 had 4, Starcraft had 3, Dawn of war i think had 4 at the start if i remember correctly same with DoW 2, and 3. I hope it gets enough support to get more races and unit DLC, but its a 50 dollar game with a decent length campaign, a map builder, a army painter, campaign, a single player rogue like replayable campaign, and ranked multiplayer. Just some of the points made seem off point, stated its a lot like a MOBA and less of a RTS but then few mins later that the game is harder than you would think even on normal and that your out of practice with RTS.

Almost everything you described isn't MOBA-like, but more like Dawn of War 2, which is a RTTS or Real Time Tactical Strategy.

As much as I would actually love a Warhammer MOBA, not seeing the MOBA mechanics here other than.. there's 3 lanes? Do you control a single hero? Do they level up? Are you on a team of 5 people with lanes and towers and creeps and item management? Kind of a lazy comparison.

Dude...this doesn't play like a MOBA at all. It plays pretty much identical to DoW2.

Been playing 2v2 with a buddy and its been fun. He was such a big fan of dow2 that he still plays it against the other hardcore diehard players regularly and he said he liked it even though hes not grasping it as easily. So, thats a pretty sterling recommend if you loved dow 2, in my opinion.

Looks like a fun translation of the tabletop age of sigmar. Sort of. Either way I'm pretty stoked to play this. Looks simple and fun

I say this on most videos I see about this game...

If they add Skaven then they get my money, no questions asked

It's not a MOBA-like game, it's more like an RTT (Real Time Tactics) game kind of like World in Conflict, Wargame, WARNO etc.

Is this game similar to Ancestors Legacy in concept of units when engaged in melee combat are not able to move or switch target unless you withdraw them? II really like this concept that was heavily misunderstood in Ancestors Legacy on how it opens tactical gameplay. Many players bounced off from Ancestors Legacy because of that while this is simply one of the best mechanics and innovations in games like COH.

Is it just randomly generated battles for the campaign mode? No story?

Is there a campaign for all five armies?

My feelings are: if we can get away from all the 4x games, RTS as a genre will be in a better place.

DoW 2 was a great game for teaching you to micro. It taught you that you needed to value your units instead of throwing them away. Personally, I liked both 2 and the first game.

DoW 3 could have been fixed but relic, and the fanbase gave up on it. Which was a shame. It was a game designed around the hero hammer mentality. Something it did very well. Unfortunately for DoW3, alot of people aren't accustomed to that in an rts. Add the fact that it didn't launch with traditional (mandatory) things you find in an rts and it had possibly one of the hardest launches.

DoW gave us a traditional rts with a non-traditional resource system that incentivised proactive early game aggression but also rewarded slower late tier progression as well. This firm foundation was easily expanded upon every expansion.

What's the max unit count for this game?

I want to buy this game and looks fun but not worth 60 dollars if it was 40 I would probably get it def needs more units or factions. Another thing is the fact they make these games for console as well so a lot of time is taken away from making the game to port it over, instead of working on the game, and then down the line make it for console they did both at the same time which is an issue COH3 has.
