I work in a local supermarket stacking shelves, with the amount of plastic in use in packaging is unbelievable. We throw away as much as 150lbs of plastics per day. This is a small supermarket in the UK. There are 4 far bigger stores in my small town.
Pallet wrap, then every package (think of 24 tins of beans) is wrapped in heavy duty plastic, then there's plastic on the label, and inside the tins, then there's the stuff that is entirely wrapped (packaged) in plastic.
95% of plastics are single use. The remaining 5% can only be recycled no more than 5 times, and almost nobody is recycling.
Yet we are told that the problem is the carrier bag.
We use on average 15 cages per day on storing cardboard for recycling. Again, how much is actually recycled? It's expensive to recycle. Sort, clean, disintegrate, and re-mould back into a ream.
It's all a freaking lie.
