League D is my favorite. Finally, those teams have a chance to win some international matches.

Confusing as hell, but interesting to say the least

Great Vid! I really like this format, no more meaningless friendlies after the summer but I'm a bit disappointed my country, the Netherlands, got the toughest group:(

This should be used as the official video to describe the new format instead of the official guides UEFA has put out which do not help explaining the new format at all(in fact they make it even more confusing).

Why does UEFA insist on complicating matters, always mixing league and knock out football in one tournement, different stages etc... Keep it simple:
This Nations League tournement should have been comprised of 7 leagues (55 teams = Leagues A, B, C, D E & F have 8 teams, League G has 7 teams). League A s the highest, while G is the lowest. Each team plays the other teams in their league home and away spread out over 2 years. The bottom team in each league is relegated, the top team in each league is promoted. The top team in League A are crowned International European League Champions. No need for mini leagues/groups or a knock out stage. No need to confuse things by including European Championship qualification, that should be completely seperate. The European Championship should also be changed to 100% knock out football. This will give us two completely different competitions, one league and one knock out cup. The top teams will have a chance of doing a Euro league & cup double. Simplicity is beautiful

My proposed nations league format

- 3 leagues
- league a: 16 teams divided in 2 groups of 8, single round robin plus 1 intergroup game, 8 games played
- league b: 30 teams divided in 2 groups of 15, divided into 1 group of 7 and 1 group of 8, single round robin plus 1 (teams from the octogonal groups) or 2 (teams from the heptagonal groups), 8 games played
- league c: 1 group of 9, single round robin

Qualification for the nations league finals

- league a: top 4 from each group qualify

- league b: top 2 from each group qualify

- league c: no finals will be held

Promotion and relegation

- league a: 7th and 8th placed teams are relegated/5th and 6th go to promotion relegation playouts

- league b: group winners are promoted to league a, 2nd and 3rd qualify for promotion relegation playouts

15th placed teams from each group are relegated, 14th placed teams qualify for promotion relegation playouts;

- league c: 1st and 2nd are promoted to league b, 3rd and 4th qualify for promption relegation playouts

Questions:
1. When will the group B, C, D knockout phase will be played?
2. When the league promotion and relegation will be effected?
3. What is the benefit of Portugal becoming champion?

Let me get this straight, the Nations league is just a way to have more games. Also this basically replaces friendlies at least for European nations, so South America, African, and All the other continents are screwed in the FIFA rankings. Not like they where already screwed and like the FIFA ranking mean anything. Just when you thought UEFA couldn't get anymore laughable.

I always thought that matches between national teams is more exciting that club matches. So I am looking forward to this league :D
Finally Croatia won't play against San Marino and others ( no England now has a chance to beat us ...but I hope we will win like in the Semi-finals ;)
Anyway it will be very interesting ;)
And thanks for the explanation...now it is a bit clearer.

Call me a weirdo or insult me all you want but what is it with people hating international football? It's the best players from your country defending the honour of your country in the world. The pride of your nation is at stake. What is not to like about that? As far as I've seen, only british people and people who are from a poor football country seem to hate international duty

It’s just a pick pocket system to replace the friendlies with a tournament that is “very important “ so that they can rise the ticket prices

Gosh, thank you so much!! I paused and re-watched some bits while I drew it all in my head. Haha. The images you used did help, though. Thanks! Now, off to explain it to my husband haha.
