If you look at videos of Foxtrot from the Golden age of Jazz (1920'S - 1940's), there were some very skilled dancers dancing the Foxtrot but they didn't arch their back like in International style competition Foxtrot. The leads held their partners closer similar to how it is done today in Argentine Tango with the lead's left arm perhaps a bit further out (although there are AT styles where the lead has his arm further out).

This 'adva ced' foxtrot is seriously incorrect. The feather step is a mirror image of the real feather step. And the reverse turn, should of course be a reverse action. But its a natural action here. I think its been recorded in a mirror.

am I mistaken in thinking that the foxtrot doesn't have a rise and fall like the waltz.
I haven't danced in almost 50 years.

noticed that it's the advanced with the rise and fall. perhaps that's the difference.
