China & Philippines clash in South China Sea, one injured | Radio Free Asia (RFA)

The Armed Forces of the Philippines released footage from the June 17, 2024, confrontation with the Chinese coast guard.

The Philippines’ military chief demanded that China return firearms its coast guard seized from Filipino troops during what he described as harassment of the country’s resupply mission to Second Thomas Shoal — also known as Ayungin Shoal — in which one Filipino sailor lost a finger.

The Philippines sent a team of soldiers, fully armed and traveling by hovercraft, into a disputed sea area with China. In the end, they were all captured by the Chinese Coast Guard, who boarded their vessel. Even their fully automatic rifles, which they carried with them, were confiscated by the Chinese Coast Guard. They are already used to border conflict like that. In China-India borders, they have the same border conflicts that happen all the time. Some will get injured, but no further actions will be taken. It's the first time to happen in the Philippines since they haven't encountered border wars before, that's why they felt wronged by Chinese actions.
