Sharks tend to swim into cages because they're interested in the electric pulse inside. Problem is, when they get stuck they freak tf out which is why people mistake it for an intentional attack

The shark cage in question was a miniature cage designed to make a real great white look like the 25m Bruce and the stuntman was a little person also, the shark got tangled up in the rope before the guy even entered to water, the footage was shot by Ron and Valarie Taylor and the scene was changed accordingly

Von and Riley Taylor were the people who took the footage. They were in Australia collecting footage of actual Great Whites for the film. They ended up adding a miniature cage to make the Great Whites look a lot bigger and one of them ended swimming into the rope that held the cage. This did not happen on the actual set since the filming of the Cage scenes were in a giant pool and the boat shots were shot off the shores of Martha's Vineyard near Massachusetts.

I’m really glad they rewrote Hooper not dying also in the book every single person is a complete asshole and I'm glad that was changed.

This isn’t explained well. The stunt man wasn’t present when the real shark was there. The shark didn’t just show up. It was scripted to use the real shark for the shots of it near the cage. However, it ended up destroying the cage
