Do you like to use a different surname or eye color in your fanfics than everyone else does? Do you think your fandom follows too many stereotypes? Here are some answers from Reddit. When someone eats a food so they're only drawn/written eating that food and no other food.

The twinkification of male characters. Canonically capable and confident men, reduced a sobbing incompetent mess who needs to be saved by the "top" in the relationship
Bonus points if they're constantly made trans for nsfw purposes. This part gets on my nerves as a trans person

i really don’t like how SO many fandom lgbt+ headcanons are just boiled down to mean girl = lesbian, goofy girl = bisexual, shy character = asexual, outgoing/confident character = pansexual, non-human or evil character = agender and/or aroace, etc. like dude i love if you see yourself in a character and are headcanoning them with your labels because of that, but most of the time it’s people doing it based off of stereotypes 😭

everytime the game has a silent protagonist, the fandom will go 3 and only 3 ways : mute, autistic, or a totally made up and bizarelly childish personality

Headcanons regarding sexuality are the bane of my existence. It's honestly so annoying when people say a character should be [insert sexual orientation] just because of the way they act. A guy doesn't act traditionally masculine? He must be gay! A girl doesn't act traditionally feminine? She must be a lesbian! This character acts cold and rude to other people? They must be aroace! A character acts cheerful? They must be pan! And so on and so on.

What bothers me the most is when people say that these headcanons are good LGBT representation, when in reality they are more damaging than anything else due to how often they stereotype characters.

I hate it when a character acts childish/ is bubbly/ literally just has fun and half the fandom goes “Omg! They’re literally a kid! If you ship them you’re a creep” or “they have no idea what (basic life thing) is” like people are allowed to be happy and adults, Becky

My least favorite genre is ‘male character is feminine, therefore trans’ trope that I tend to see in some fandoms. Like, cool and fun, I don’t mind it and some work really well, but sometimes I feel like it takes away from the intent of just having a man comfortable with who he is. It sort of backhandedly implies that men can’t be feminine without being gay/trans and rubs me wrong even if that’s not the intent

I have a few:

-When the fandom straight up forgets that the characters are teens/children.

-The constant need certain people have to ship everone. Look, I love shipping culture as much as the next guy, maybe even more. But even as a multishopper who indulges in rarepairs, I won't deny that it can get a bit much at times when people constantly try convincing you it is canon. Enjoy what you want, but keep in mind they're *headcanons* at the end of the day.

-A whole load of gender/sexuality discourse. Oh, character x enjoys crissdressing? Trans. Character y is a fairly masculine woman? Lesbian. I'm sure no one means any harm but it's surprisingly damaging as it insinuates that men and women (especially men) can't be secure in their gender without being trans purely because they fit certain stereotypes.
(Also, need I even mention comphet/twinkification?)

-Saying a character is lazy/stupid because they're autistic or vice versa. Oh man I cannot bgin to express my disdain for this.

I ESPECIALLY agree with the lesbian/bisexual comment: Any lgbtq+ woman that’s more stereotypically masculine is automatically assumed to be lesbian while the more stereotypically feminine one is bisexual or pansexual. Like, why is that always the case in fannon?! Heck, even female characters that are either straight or don’t have a defined sexual orientation are automatically considered lesbians in fannon

Yes, there are masculine lesbians in real life, but there’s also several feminine lesbians! And not every tomboy is automatically a lesbian either (she might be straight, bi, pan, ace, etc.). And not every bisexual woman is hyper feminine either, there are plenty of bi women that are more “masculine” as well

Can we PLEASE have more diversity with female lgbtq+ characters?!

When the one religious character, especially those who are more characteristically grouchy or bitter, is violently homophobic despite never showing any hate, or even distaste, at all in canon.

Dude, not every single religious person is out for gay blood just because they're religious.

Maybe the real headcannon was the headcannons we ignored along the way 😌

One headcanon I despise is when the character who is being nice to kids is a p3d0 out no where like I'm sorry is being nice with children considered p3d0.

This headcanon is disgusting as heck not only is harmful but also mischaracterize the character they headcanon for that character.

Even it is mostly used as a joke I really dislike the: "Mario and Luigi dislike/abuse each other" when in the games they will literally die for the sake of the other.

God, I am so glad to see someone else recognizing the fact that Percy is an unreliable narrator when it comes to himself. Sure, he might not be a child of Athena, but Athena's children aren't the only smart people at camp. Percy is emotionally intelligent, cunning, and sometimes even manipulative. He just doesn't see himself that way because he's so insecure.

And another thing in the PJO fanon that I hate: making Leo Valdez stupid as well. Like, this boy is canonically out here solving university level math equations at the age of eight and making a fully functional flying ship based on a drawing he made at age five. And yet again, fandom has fallen victim to the "if they're not a child of Athena, they're not smart" trap. Leo is an actual prodigy!

This might be a controversial take but I feel like most trans headcanons are kinda reductive and based purely in gender stereotypes, like a girl that likes "masculine" things? Nope trans boy! A boy who likes "feminine" things? Nope trans girl! Like I thought gender stereotypes were a bad thing?

Whenever they make the overweight character aroace. I love aro/ace headcanons for characters from any fandom because I love that representation but if it's always the overweight or not stereotypically attractive characters it just feels really weird.
