Dearest Viewers, we are back!! We apologise for the lengthy delay between videos! This week we delve into what is known as the first truly `modern` war, the Crimean War. In many ways it was a transition in battlefield technology, medicine, and geopolitics.

I don't often wander outside my standard history channels, but when information on the Crimean war was either lacking in content, too confusing, or seiously long winded, I happened upon your channel.
Thank you very much! Very succinct and to the point. I'll be checking out your other videos.

A story about the French, and British fighting on the side of Islam. Why all the hatred toward a great, and wealthy European nation? What did France, and Great Britain have to gain by supporting the Islamic occupation of Anatolia; a land seeped in European history? Why support a non-European power sitting upon European soil? Later, these tow great powers will takes sides against another great culture/nation: Germany/Austria. WHY? WHY? WHY?

The Ottoman Empire allied themselves with the Central Powers in World War I not the Axis. The Axis was active during World War 2 not World War I.
A small error but an important one.

I note the obligatory repeating of the myth about Mary Seacole, the hotelier.

I really enjoyed listening to this. It has provided a very useful introduction to a subject I knew very little about.

I wonder if any of Russian historians could be unbiased in saying this historic event, as young girl and having family members living in Sevastopol I visited several times Malachov Kurgan, one of bastions of city defense. Also Leon Tolstoi have been participant of this war and left his narrative about events .

Russia is definitely a winner in this war -let's have a look :
Losses:
Russia - 143 000
Turkey - 175 000
France - 97 000
Britain - 22 000
So, finally 143 000 vs 294 000 =) Alliy lost twice as much! Is it victory of allies?

Well, you repeated the myth about Mary Seacole, who was not a nurse. She went to the Crimea to provide comforts for British officers.
She was also not actually black black, she had a white father and a white grandfather. Also did not really like black folks. Her Autobiography is very interesting.

Sultan Abdulmecid of turkey almost bankrupted the empire building his palace before Crimean war started.
His had 14 tonnes of gold gilt to decorate it costing equivalent of 6 million dollars!! All while the ottoman empire crumbled!!

Oops, sorry as I was saying that what they were doing in 1853, kudos to the Turks, they have always been pretty tough, and kudos to Britain and France for putting aside their old rivalry and join forces with the Turks and win..although it was a logistics nightmare and the initial poor care for the wounded, Florence nightingale was amazing, like Clara Barton and Dorothea Dix in our civil war...nurses are amazing ....

Hello, tell you what happened in the Crimean War in Sevastopol? Where did the name of Crimea come from. Did ships sink in the bay?
And who was fighting with whom and against whom? You can see my answers on my YouTube channel .. Galina Vintseva. Sincerely.

As a descendant of Ottomans, now that I liked the video and subscribed to the channel, I consider myself I owe you no more in personal level. :D
We could use an update video of The crimean war then and the Ukraine war now.

Couldn’t understand half of what he said … talked TOO fast and the heavy thick British accent was just plain un- inteligentable to me an american. Pity… as was looking forward to learning a bit about this war…

Backing the Turkish occupation of Christians in Southeast Europe and in the Middle East during the nineteenth century is one of the worst sins of the British Empire.

as I have said in the past the law of the lord is not being kept which if we do we will have peace like a river. there is a time and a season for everything but why do we not have peace are we not all brothers a family of nations world wide ? but if we do wrong by our brothers will not war prevail because we have ignored the words of Christ we find ourselves in this situation. will wars ever end? Christ will bring peace on earth which we all need.
