In the first 164 pages of the book 'Alcoholics Anonymous, ' meant to be suggestive only, there is no suggestion to get a sponsor. The words, 'Sponsor, sponsorship and sponsee, ' do not appear and are not included in the clear cut directions on dealing with the program of recovery from alcoholism which demands rigorous honesty. Can't get anybody drunk and can't get anybody sober. The first nine will get you sober and the last three will keep you sober. God help us!

Nicely said. I was going to say that the word sponsor doesn't actually appear in the AA big book (i.e. it is not in the doctors opinion or main text - 164 pages) but then it struck me that it may appear in the stories at the back. I will have to go and check. I like the flashback to the first days of BMX and wish you well 👍🏼

When the first members took new people through the steps, they weren't called sponsors. But guiding them through the steps was central to helping real alcoholics attain and then experience long term sobriety.
