Thanks for this reaction, Marillion is amazing, in both periods!

Thanks for the Marillion reaction Rob! They don't get a lot of these. Even though I think more people need to hear them... They've got a really deep catalogue. "Kayleigh" was just their number one pop song. They have a lot more proggy stuff. In the begining they were compared to Genesis a lot, and that was an influence they admitted. They've also been compared to Pink Floyd because of the lead guitarist Steve Rothery who is more of a melodic "feel" player like David Gilmour. Their keyborad player Mark Kelly has a big effect on their sound like Richard Wright did on Pink Floyd too. They've had two lead singers who were quite different from each other in "Fish" and "Steve Hogarth". The first four albums were with Fish, and he was the singer in "Kayleigh". Other songs from the Fish era to check out would be "Garden Party" and "Sugar Mice". From the Hogarth era (the current one) "Easter" and "Neverland" are real stand-outs. You can go a lot deeper of course, but these should give you a better idea about Marillion in general. Its a great journey!

Love to hear this kind of music. It's great to see bands that play instruments without any computers help... U just need talent.

The Marshall stack is just for show. The fantastic clean sound of the guitar was because he was going through a Roland JC120. Probably the best combo amp to come out of Japan.

Hello Robk, here in Hurlingham, Argentina we see you with my whole family in this quarantine.
You are one of my favorite youtubers for your spontaneity, energy and empathy when listening to a melody.
I hope you never leave the channel because I like to see you every night.
By the way, if you can react to the following songs I would be very flattered.
Divided - El 38
Divided - Paisano de Hurlingham (this song is about the city where I was born, in the midst of the national dictatorship)
Las Pelotas - Sera (my mother was related in a loving way with the singer)
And finally, Rodrigo, Soy Cordobes (it is a Latin Quartet song, where the singer was very charismatic and died in the midst of his musical frenzy).
Thank you,
Jazmin.

Love all marilllion from the 80s to now. Saw them live in 2019. Fish was great, enjoying his last album received on vinyl to New Zealand, always enjoyed Hogarth. Gaza live might be your thing.

I think that most of band members were from England, but the lead singer is a huge guy (6ft 5") Derek William Dick known professionally as Fish a name that he adopted because of his love for water, he always loved baths, jacuzzis and hot tubs etc.

Fish is most definitely not from England but Scotland. I gather that he hails from Galashiels in the Scottish Borders but lived in Edinburgh. He's a very passionate Scotsman.

Fish is releasing his final album (Weltschmerz)real soon and is then retiring from rock and roll. "I don't want to be 80 year's old singing Kayleigh (kay Lee) in bars." The song you were listening to was "Script For a Jester's Tear"

Fun fact; the lead singer actually went on to marry the German blonde woman in this video.

To get a better idea of what Marillion were capable of in their prime, I would advise Rob to check out the two mini-epics which close out the Fugazi album, and also the 1983 live video version of Forgotten Sons.
(Btw with the recent reactions being limited to a small crop of artists, I wonder if he ever feels the urge to go back to one of my old lists and pick out a song he hasn't heard...)
