Superteams have dominated the NBA over the past 10 years, mostly led by LeBron James and Kevin Durant. However, this year we have seen a massive shift in the success of these teams... potentially signaling the end of the superteam era.

Giannis re signing in Milwaukee was such a huge moment in nba history… proved you could stay in a small market and still be a superstar

I really don’t think the 2019 Raptors are a super team. They traded a star for a superstar, but it was a 2 for 1 deal, not like the AD trade. I think the nba in the past few years has just exploded in terms of overall talent.

I think Brooklyn is just paying the price for trading for James Harden. They had a nice amount of depth around KD and Kyrie, Im sure Caris Levert and Jarrett Allen could be helping them out big time rn. They just traded their depth for a huge offensive fire power and it blew up in their face

I think superteams are here to stay, but superteams of recent years just haven't been as good as the 2017-19 Warriors and 2010-13 Heat

A cool stat to show this. The last four years have had four different NBA champions. The first time this has happened since before Magic/Bird.

The biggest difference between the superteams now and back then is age. The most successful super teams were all relatively young or in their primes like the heatles or the kd era warriors vs the failed kobe/howard/steve nash and the struggling nets/lakers (which did get that one title). Next era of superstars are going to teaming up in the next 3-5 years

Front offices just need to learn that aging veterans aren't worth getting rid of your young assets for. There needs to be balance between development from within and filling in the gaps through free agency/trades.

It’s great to see less super teams and more parity it’s a win for the nba and it’s fan

Wait how does the raptors trading one of their stars for a superstar count as making a superteam, they literally had one superstar
And it wasn't even a free agency move.

Might be a little bias but I believe the Clippers actually have a pretty underrated young core -->
Mann- A pretty good Two way playmaker
Coffey- Talented scorer multiple 25+ bombs
Zubac- Amazing off rebounder & defender
Kennard- Amazing shooter & playmaker
Boston Jr- Promising bursts of scoring
Moon- Pretty intresting shot creator

No way you had the Raps highlighted as a super team. No way. No one viewed that team as a super team or a bunch of stars put together. This comment was made when I first saw the list of highlighted teams so if he addressed that later mb but no way were the 2019 Raps a super team by any definition.

Even before KD, Warriors is building up to where they are now when Spurs, Miami, and OKC are the teams in the finals. It just flourished around 14-15 and now they already established the team in attracting somewhat good new young players.

I really hope so. I honestly can't wait for this last Generation to retire so we can let these young players finally breathe. I'm looking forward to this years Playoffs as a showcase for this New Generation, A Generation of Competitors. Like the old days when NBA was exciting to watch.

I think the biggest assumption here is the NBA will continue to be player-driven. Next CBA would probably put a stop to it since players have been abusing the power they got. At certain point the owners paying the bills would say enough is enough (basketball teams are money-losing business)

I was thinking super teams were when you had 3 or more superstars/ allstars in starting lineup, maybe I’m wrong, but I think dynamic duos shouldn’t count as a superteam…

I love that the NBA is going toward a "my guy vs your guy" situation with teams like the bucks, sixers, trailblazers, and other teams with their home grown stars

Hard to build a functioning super team when several players want the max salary even though they haven't lived up/ did not live up to it. The Miami super team brought 2 titles cause some of their star players took a paycut.

I feel like it is more a downswing than an end to Superteams. The issues is superteams being made around older stars and injury prone ones. You get a relatively healthy superstar in his prime saying "I'm going here to win" and then guys follow him...it probably will work.

That's just the way the NBA is. It is a superstar driven league. If teams can find ways to lock up their developed stars then that's great. But all it takes is a guy wanting to win somewhere else. Nothing has actually changed to stop superteams from working. The team that they choose to make a super team just needs to be run properly and be ready for them.
