I can't stress enough that Photoshop really has nothing to do with 3Ds max. Photoshop is for pictures and images, 3Ds max is for modeling and animations. :) Hope this helped!

What are you planning on doing with both of these? If you want to edit images, go for photoshop, if you want to create 3D animations, architectural designs or make game models, go for 3Ds max!

A modification for a game where everything, or almost everything is changed. The map, the cars and anything else is modded. :)

That's a bit of a hard question to answer... 3Ds max and Photoshop are VERY different things. You can't even compare them. If I had to chose. I would say that 3Ds max has WAY more features and Photoshop is probably easier to use. But really, both things are TOTALLY different. :)

I'm currently using 1.1 or SA. So, it's 2.0 at heart, but downgraded to 1.0. :) Thus, it's 1.1.

Oh, and don't forget... If you are a student, 3Ds max can come down to about $250 AUD (About $300 US)! :D Awesome price eh? :) Make sure you check that out!

Ok, lets get this straight... :)
You can't make buildings, peds or anything 3D in photoshop, it's only for textures and imagery. 3Ds max can't do textures or imagery, it's only for 3D modeling and rendering ( if you're doing GTA mods, rendering won't matter ). I guess, if you wanted to do buildings, cars and peds, I would chose to buy 3Ds max and download Gimp for making textures for your models (Gimp is free! :D).

Because most of the HUD is hardcoded, it's pretty hard to modify the HUD unless you want to make a custom Direct3D 9 wrapper. Take a look at Alexander Blade's GTA IV HUD mod. It's a CLEO script. If you take a good look at it, I'm sure you'll work it out! :) Sorry, I can't really give you a straight answer. :P

So, there are lots of tools I use for GTA modding. Here are some of the most common ones. :)
- TXD Workshop - For modding GTA archives.
- 3Ds Max - For 3D modeling. But remember, it wasn't made for modding, so it's not free.
- WinRAR - General tool for extracting RAR archives.
- SannyBuilder - GTA SCM script editor.

That's about all I can think of. :) Let me know if you want more info.
