EDIT - I've been reliably informed that the Keirin is now just 6 laps, with the Derny pulling off after 3 laps. I must have used an old rulebook and/or footage.

This is an extremely hard sport! I had tryouts at Manchester Velodrome when they were recruiting talent.
There were some people I could never keep up with, no matter what I tried.
I think at that elite level - you either have it or you don't.

Track cycling is so much fun to watch but it is so hard to understand! Thanks for clearing it up and making it easier to understand! Much appreciated from Canada 🇨🇦

I love velodrome racing
The elimination race is certainly my favorite along with team pursuit and time trail.

At 68 I'm getting ready to ride the track again. I haven't been on since my late 20's. This video made it all clear again and pumped up my confidence knowing I have the immediate information not to make a fool of myself. You want to increase your bike handling, leg speed, cardio, plus so much more... ride the track. It will make you a much better road rider.

Very well explained. I liked the concept of riding in a group and the way the 1st rider moves back to conserve energy. Really a great scientific piece of information I learnt . Thank you.

I had no idea on anything related to track cycling other than the fact the track is called a velodrome and the walls slope. So thank you for teaching me basically everything from scratch! Nice to know more, my partner likes indoor cycling and I like learning new stuff. Great video!

Very good explanations. I listened to it twice, because I think he forgot to mention two characteristics of the bikes.

#1 - no brakes. Because there should never be any obstacles on the track other than riders who have fallen, there is no need for brakes . You probably would not be able to react fast enough to use brakes.

#2 - only one gear, and it’s usually a high gear. And, the crank does not coast. If the rear wheel is moving so is the crank.

I will have lived after building a Nagasawa (proper) and finding a velodrome that'll have me. Thank you for introducing me to another reason why bikes are awesome..

Thanks for the explanation. I was watching the track cycling at the Pan American games and I couldn't figure out why one team won over the other. Thanks to you, now I know.

I got free tickets to the velodrome at the Pan Am Games and I was so confused even after an entire day watching. By far the most puzzling event is the sprint where 2 guys go slow, not in a straight line, almost stop and then randomly start racing when they feel like it

Many thanks for the fab video. My Grandson is competing in an Omnium at the Manchester velodrome tomorrow. His first track competition. The information has helped me to understand the various events so much better.

Thank you. Great job. For a long time I knew the rules or why the riders did what they did. Now I can enjoy it better.

Well this was unexpected! However this is an awesome video as always! This is also probably the best video explaining track cycling because ot explains pretty much all the events and also explains some of the nuances and rules of racing such as the lines.
