In modern times, black colour occupies a controversial niche. Many people believe black to be a colour of evil the wearing of which leads to depression, whilst others praise its elegance and claim that it produces a calming effect.

Historically, the production of deep, dark shades of black was extremely expensive and therefore, wearing black was a status symbol. That is the reason why you see so many people in old portraits adorned in black attire. Church in the Middle Ages also favoured this colour as a symbol of sobriety, modesty and self-restrain.

Personally, I find black fascinating, as it is the colour of shadow, which is the natural dress of the world. Colour is the reflection of light, and every single thing in the world is wrapped in black unless sun shines upon it. The dark is where everything started and where everything one day will return. It is the eternal welcoming home for the lost children of the world.
