Today's puzzle is an extremely clever creation by the American Math Teacher RockyRoer and it has a hidden title! [Because the real title is a spoiler about how to solve the puzzle.] You can play it at the link below:

Rules:
Normal Sudoku Rules apply. Killer sudoku rules apply ie digits cannot repeat in a cage. Cage totals must be deduced. The sum of all the cells in all the cages is 165.

Now I really want to see a puzzle titled "Row 1 column 7 is a 3".

Simon really wants to work out the minimum of these cages in any way other than adding them up 😹

Simon: “You can see by the geometry that these are 589 and yadda yadda yadda and this is a mirror cell of this one over here ... and this 4 has to go here which means this can’t be a 5 or 8 and so must be a 9.

Me: “There’s a 9 in row 3”

yee... solved it... I don't know why but my mind went to the lowest sum. But I cheated, where Simon used logic, I used a calculator. Saved me around 3 minutes. Please don't get angry Simon.. :)

A puzzle that I actually figured out all by myself!! Yippee!!! Yes, Simon is certainly complicating things--he's so used to all these harder puzzles that have been shown lately.

This is my first time figuring out the trick quickly and beating Simon’s time and I’m so proud of myself!

Really loved this. Deceptively simple. Once you discover the trick, the puzzle falls into place, and I enjoyed figuring out the trick. The hardest part really is figuring out how to start, but it's kind of staring you in the face right at the outset. Well done, RockyRoer.

most of the video is him trying to figure out the sum of triangular numbers, everything just resolves itself super quickly after

Something interesting I noticed about this puzzle:

If you instead take the maximum values for each cage to reach a sum of 285, you would get a final solution where each cell is reflected about the digit 5. So 1s become 9s, 2s become 8s, etc.

The maximal sum for the nine cages would have been 285. Simon's instincts abut the maximum being more than 165 were spot on.

12:01 for me. I’m very proud of myself. Normally I can’t even finish the puzzles on this channel but the Killer Sudoku app has been training my brain to think about more abstract ideas I guess. I’ve never been faster than Simon before. It’s truly a special day
