I love that these men are talking about results and consequences. You see the ghosts in Jake's eyes. He's appealing to the man's honor and the Colonel respects him with his silence. What a powerful fucking scene on so many levels. Guy Ritchie is an artist.

Ever since 'October Sky', Jake Gyllenhaal has been one of my favorite actors.

I liked this film right away when I saw it, after having quite low expectations thinking it would be a pretty routine run of the mill type military action movie. But after rewatching this clip, I have to hand it to Gyllenhaal here with this intense, well-acted monologue. Well done.

What I love about this scene are the ways he holds back. I could imagine a different actor emphasizing a lot more of the words but Gyllenhaal holds back so when he says “YOU are a man who pays his debts” it really hits even though he’s not shouting out anything.
