I love eating like half a personal watermelon in the summer. But I also know I’m not eating it to satiate hunger. I’m eating it because it’s a cold, sweet treat that’s perfect for a hot summer day. If I wanted it to be filling, I’d add it to a salad with chicken, feta, dark leafy greens, and a balsamic glaze. Both snacks are okay! They just feed a different hunger.

And here I am every summer eating half a watermelon every other day because I know I only get to have it for such a short amount of time during the year 😭

If you’re someone who enjoys snacking, however, and have specific calorie targets, consuming high volume, low-calorie dense foods can be very satisfying. And the fact that it is so low calorie means that you can have another snack, a short time later.
Eating these types of high volume, delicious, healthy, low cal foods is great for people who enjoy snacking throughout the day - and makes it possible to adhere to specific dietary targets. Not everyone wants or needs a super high calorie meal that’s going to keep them full for hours.

My favorite fruit is strawberries, cherries, and blueberries. Berries are refreshing frozen with some cottage cheese or yogurt and a few nuts. I do enjoy watermelon but not every day. Thank you, Abby, for your thoughts on watermelon.

I don't see an issue with eating a lot of watermelon. It's hydrating and satisfying.

Omg you've just reminded me of an Iraqi Ramadan evening delicacy, white danish cheese and watermelon in Lebanese flatbread or iraqi bread washed down with black iraqi tea perfection in a little snack also enjoyed with either almonds or walnuts

Yes completely true and that's the reason that some influencer advise to accept hunger in order to fight it.

I am a watermelon fiend. When I get my hands on some, I usually eat around 500g at a time. At the moment I've made myself a bit sick of it, but during summer I was eating it almost every day. I am also on a weight loss journey (down 62lbs!) but never tried to use watermelon as a hack to beat hunger. I just don't really think that would work. It can make a good snack on its own, but yeah, it doesn't really create satiety. I usually eat it along with a small serving of something protein heavy if I'm making it a meal. You're never gonna feel good if you're not properly nourished, and that means getting a balanced intake of all your macros. I've had issues with restrictive EDs in the past, and they're really a miserable test of willpower, because you're always fighting hunger. Plus you always feel like crap. This is the first time I'm losing weight in a healthy way, and omg, it is SO much easier. It's just falling off me and people are so impressed but honestly, I don't even really feel like I'm trying that hard, lol. I rarely exercise and I almost never have to deal with hunger to stay within my calorie budget. It's all about balanced eating.

I'm not a fan of sweet & savory mixes, but if you like that kind of thing, you may enjoy that feta, balsamic watermelon salad that was popular for a while. You get the volume with a bit of fat and protein; plus the salt in the dressing with the water & sugar from the watermelon would make it basically a Gatorade with fiber

I’m eating watermelon almost every evening, I just love having something sweet after dinner, of course sometimes it’s ice cream, other times other dessert but watermelon is a great late night snack for me

I’ve been listening to health and fitness podcast and tbh its all overwhelming and scary. To the point where I was going down a dangerous path of almost being afraid of food. Following this makes me feel like it’s not as scary as people are making it out to be.

I absolutely love having some fried chicken or chicken in general with a big serving of watermelon along side whereas I used to eat chicken and a huge bowl of Mac and cheese or pasta or potato salad, so I get to have my delicious chicken maybe even a scoop or two of Mac and cheese and a nice big side of watermelon, you have to have balance it's a good "tool" but not the solution, when you learn how to have balance while also cutting corners like replacing a huge portion of Mac and cheese, with a few tasty scoops and a nice refreshing sweet watermelon you on your way!

I cut mine up into a container and put in fridge so when I want something sweet I grab a few pieces lovely and cold and enjoy but it’s more about a replacement for say eating ice cream for me so guess that could be considered weight loss alternative!

If I’m gonna eat a whole watermelon it’s not cause I’m trying to fill up and lose weight, it’s cause watermelon is fucking delicious and literally the perfect snack on hot summer days, and I wanna eat as much as I can before they go out of season T^T

I think if people are always looking for "weight loss hacks" then they're always going to fail 🙈 I just don't think they exist. I think you just have to change your whole mindset about food & wanting to eat a whole load of something to stop you being hungry is not the way to go 🤷
