China-US Scientists Create World's First Graphene Semiconductor “Leap Forward For Quantum Computing'

Scientists have made a breakthrough in electronics, creating the world’s first functional semiconductor made from graphene. The discovery is seen as a possible “leap forward” for superfast computing beyond silicon chips.
It comes at a time when silicon, the material using which nearly all modern electronics are made, is reaching its limit. Semiconductors are materials that conduct electricity under specific conditions and are foundational components of electronics. This long-elusive feat was possible due to the efforts of scientists at China’s Tianjin University and the Georgia Institute of Technology.

This is what the world needs, not confrontation between USA and China.

The joke about graphene in the industry is that graphene can do everything .... in the laboratory.

Indian's contribution is to provide chips in the celebration party, the 7mm potato chips. Yummy.

I recall writing a paper on carbon nanotube logic gates for one of my graduate classes in microelectronics. It was the big topic at the time, where if you don't really know what to write about, you write a paper about carbon nanotubes. It worked "somewhat okay" in the simulation but we didn't even discuss fabrication, and that is my far the biggest challenge, i think graphene monolayer or whatever graphene tech they were doing is probably even harder. The electron mobility is significantly higher in carbon than in silicon, and that's the advantage that we're trying to access, but if i recall correctly, it doesn't work as good as a p-type semiconductor, so I don't think it was possible to use it in CMOS architecture. This course was a while ago so I may be wrong or forgot some details and I'm definitely not up to date on the tech

Phones lasting for weeks without running out of battery.

Couple that with solid state batteries, could be a month+ without needing to charge a smartphone.

The switches in the human brain operate at 5 ms speed and it does a good job with low power.

Correct me if I'm wrong but with better heat reduction that would also be huge for quantum computing as well. I wonder if that will lead to further breakthroughs on that front which would be great to usher in that technology too.

Can someone tell me why the US is helping China develop a technology that can and will be used against the US's best interests especially in the defense industry?
This is exactly what happens. Anyone remember Covid-19? Developed in part with US NHF funding. Thats right help your adversaries develope things that can potentially harm you. Smart!
