Did you know that in April 1967, Martin Luther King, Jr., spoke at Stanford about racism and civil rights in American society? For more than 30 years, Stanford has been at the forefront of scholarship about King’s legacy through the Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute. Tenisha Armstrong, ’06, and Lerone Martin discuss the institute’s mission and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Papers Project that highlights significant sermons, speeches, publications, and more.
Tenisha Armstrong, ’06, is the King Papers Project director. Lerone Martin is the Martin Luther King, Jr., Centennial Professor and associate professor of religious studies. Both are accomplished researchers and authors. At the King Institute, they assemble and disseminate comprehensive resources about King’s life and the movements he inspired.
