I know four American families who visited China in the past 20 years and they all say it ain't pretty and smells bad. For those who've been only to Hong Kong, that city is far different than the rural areas which often are said by Western visitors to be "disgustingly unsanitary".

Never mind China. I was staying on 73rd street in NYC. On the Avenue at the corner was a bodega run by an Oriental gent. The bodega had a salad bar. In the evenings before days for trash collection, the owner could be seen going through the trash of the large grocery store across the street from his bodega to find items for his salad bar.

I took the subway to one of the most northern stations in Beijing and went for a walk around some of the towers that people live in. I cross the bridge over Bluewater that was being scooped up in pails and taken out and put on green onions that were up on the bank. When I referred to it is blue water, it was a milky blue color, and obviously not clean water that they were putting on the green onions which would later be consumed by people. The green onions look absolutely fantastic. They look fresh and clean but when you look at the water that was put on them, the contamination level in those green onions must have been astronomical. when I cross the bridge, I actually had to take a deep breath before I got there because the smell would make you nauseous.

As a general contractor iv been fascinated with this for years. Unfortunately I can see us head this way the way things are going in building. No one even cares about what they build anymore I swear they just care about the money.

In Africa, people in extremely poor regions don’t even do this . They usually have a spray can filled with water. How clean is the water? Sometimes it’s questionable.

Humanure is an excellent fertilizer, IF prepared correctly. It has to decay over a period of time with a high internal temperature. Like composting your vegetable scrap, it breaks down and kills of any bacteria. THEN it can be used. Unfortunately, , they crap in a bucket and trot it out to the garden.

Can you discuss Chinese carnivorous escalators? I’ve seen many photos of people falling into the mechanical section at the top or bottom of the escalator, where the floor meets the metal ramp. Sometimes they just cave in under the weight of a person and they end up in the gears
