The Sole Survivor also has an innate advantage that common wastelanders don't have. If this advantage wasn't present, our perspective of the institute would definitely be like the other wastelanders

They’re literally Big MT but with more people and their stuff actually works. So busy thinking about if they could and never stopping to think if they should.

Guys the institute made robotic gorillas. Perfect to be released in their natural habitat of Boston

They aren’t *mean*, but they are very self-centered. They’ll kill a guy & replace him with a synth to… grow some gourds.

The Institute's a classic example of "Good intentions gone wrong" and/or "Ends justify the means" type of evil, just like the other clearly-evil factions like the Unity, Enclave, and Legion. The only difference is that the Institute is presented as "another good option" after you meet their leader, unlike the others who are still presented as the villains, just villains who make a bit of sense

When I first played Fallout I didn't even hesitate to blow up the institute. The ends doesn't justify the means. On my second playthrough I decided to help the institute but I always felt like I was playing as the bad guy.

Their actions also make the Brotherhoods xenophobia make some sense. It’s a faction that made deals with the railroad and wastelanders before betraying them and murdering a good chunk of them. I would probably also not trust synths.

I blew up the institute and the brotherhood, and I stayed with the minutemen

"Hey, so why are we making mutants? what benefit does this have to our organisation?"
"I don't know, now shut up and get the teleporter ready."

yeah they always say they wanna work with the surface but do nothing to have good relations. Especially for a group who tries to understand people so hard

I’d love it if the player could actually change things in the institute considering you get made the director (of course the director is kind of a figurehead and each department kind of does it’s own thing)

The institute is the only faction where they attack you first, only when you prove yourself usefull they stop

My head cannon is that the Sole Survivor does make sweeping changes to the Institute after taking over.

The worst is that if you fight the institute, they consider all the wastelanders like doomed. Making them going ballistic against everyone in the commonwealth.

The institute wishes they had Mr. House as appointed director

Kidnapping babies, killing their mother, and kidnapping people only to swap them out with a robot are all pretty irredeemable stuff.

My whole point about the institute is .. u literally become the leader after Sean dies. So technically you could stop all the bad stuff the institute is doing…

Madison Li: The institute were the good guys compared to the Brotherhood!
Me: *showing off the various past offenses of the institute in a SpongeBob meme*

This is what bugged me about siding with the institute. I figured, as the head of the whole operation, I’d get to cause positive change. The change father THOUGHT he was doing. But nope, Bethesda writing, the game just ends other than radiant quests
