"Yeah. Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could that they didn't stop to think if they should. AI Power’s The Most Awesome Force The Planet’s Ever Seen, But You Wield It Like A Kid Who’s Found His Dad’s Gun."

i was following a fellow graphic designer on instagram. As soon as he showed a tutorial on how to use ai to make a logo i gave him the biggest unfollow in existence.

i feel like the established fact that AI is actively consuming all of our water should be discussed more than the possibility that it could increase co2 emissions

I don't get what AI bros see in AI because the closer I look I start to see the anatomy errors

I absolutely agree with you. I wish it was more ethically sourced. But they can so scummy with the data gathering. SPECIALLY Midjourney. That aside, I just wish raw gen AI was kept in the realm of hobbies and outside of professional spaces. Some dude generating an anime landscape for his phone wallpaper? Chill. Wacom using that messy dragon for the new year post? Absolutely not.

i think people also forget how ai is being used in political propagandas, individuals whose face is being used to produce nsfw contents and as stated the harms caused both in environment and the livelihood of the creatives.

when AI first came around, it was pretty cool. I saw established artists using it as a template before completely transforming it. Its a great tool for inspiration. its a great tool to experiment with, seeing what happens if you combine two styles together. Its genuinely pretty cool. The issue is the number of people who rely entirely on an AI prompt and conpare themselves to traditional artists.

Artists keep saying that ai could be used ethically, and i just dont see hows thats possible. It will only result in more spam, and artists competing for a smaller and smaller pool of work. If yall could provide examples of how it can be better that would be great.

I totally agree that AI is peepeepoopoo.
The only """ok""" use of it I heard of is using it to "get compositions ideas" like ; starting an illustration is hard and I find myself staring at a white canvas not knowing how to start.
I saw some artist using AI to get several possible compositions and then using their skills to actually draw that thing.
I'm also very sad that we don't use AI to make chores, like pls dishes and dusting take too much time I wanna draw instead TuT

I know ai has been used to assist the placement of strokes on 3d models such as the spiderverse movies. Early on I also saw people generating poses or compositions for a bit of a inspiration boost and thats all i expected of ai at the time.

What is "Ai" now is just plain art thievery and disrespect to artists

Even now with Ai generated animation they still need artists to touch it up who aren't even credited

I really like your approach to this very sensitive topic - it’s honest but not hateful, and I entirely agree with your opinions. Thank you for posting this

gen Ai can be ethical if the model is only trained on your art and nothing else.

tho- I'm not sure if i would follow an artists who, after a certain point, doesn't draw anymore because they fed their entire portfolio into a model and only generate art now.

I could see self-trained models being useful for comic artists i suppose.

My position on this computer prompt art (I try not to use the term "AI" for this as there is no intelligence involved) was that Dall-E and ChatGPT were fantastic tools with great potential that needed to be used ethically, and it was up to the individual artist to take that responsibility.

However that position has changed to one of fervent antipathy, as the whole learning model process is ethically repugnant, and has only become more blatant in recent months.

The wisest counsel would be to steer as clear of this quagmire as possible.

I think both artist are fine. I think being upset on people who know how too draw is unnecessary. I understand the emotional response some people have, and There are important discussions to be had.

With a.i. because of how invasive it is. Ways to combat it. Just blocking a.i. accounts and purposely miss useing hashtags, press for platforms too put distortion fillers, not talking about it. Personally a big thing is elevating people. Artist have a lot more too give. Input, ideas, the creativity. Saying how valuable real artist are.

There will be people who want too cheat artist, those people are not the clients artist want. but limitations of a.i., the inconsistencies of the art, or uncanny details. Artist notice things, and provide a special tailored product. Something a.i. can't do. As well, artist are able too help how something associate's a brand. Beyond logo's, art styles project branding, and artist have preference of taste. Toys, fabrics, cards, stickers, style, home decor, and so much more. Artist have more creative power then a.i., and they have needed perspectives that add value to projects.

Why does every Pro-AI person just seem like they are gaslighting themselves into giving up?

We need an actual ethical AI gen, i´m sure people like Ergo-josh would totally be ready to donate theyr skills to a morally sound AI generator, Right?
I mean they are both already support the scummy ones, so why would they not be happy to do so?

Somehow i get the feeling they would say no to that.

Ethical AI consisting of public domain content and media you made on your own. Big artists with plenty of art to create their own models using ones that have harvested millions of peoples creations and everything not behind a digital lock and key shows how they dont either care or understand what damage their doing by endorsing this stuff with their actions and posts.

i agree, if ai [insert job or work] wouldn't steal from artists like a recycle bin and steal people's job - i don't have much to say.

I prefer real human works references for learn and inspiration, if its possible traditional art references. The solution is return to traditional art, there is no ai bros who knows ho to hold a pencil.

My hot take. AI art argument is stupid:
1. People say "it's in google image so it's public", well the creator consent for it to be seen as that is what posting on the interney is, not used tho.

2. People say "AI art is not art", well then you do not truelly know what art is. Did you think it's easy to set up those AI model youself? You have to be a nerd to set it up, even I have no clue how. The question you should be asking is, it is a good art? No, it's a *shit art* becuase it's made out of trash data/piecing things together from a dumbter, but it is still art/made by someone, that is the most accurate description I can give lol.

3. People say "AI bad" as if it inherently is, mate, idk what to tell you, it's a tool, blame the user not the tool, it can be used rightly. Just because most of the apple is bad doesn't mean there isn't a single good apple who used it rightly with consent.

4. Another may say "all this consent issiue thing, can't I just train my AI after *my own* art? Won't that make comission process easier?", certainly yes, it might even avoid hand injury/karpal tunel dissease suffered by many artists on the long run, but unless you use it *moderately* by photobashing it from scratch using the pngs the AI give for example instead of inserting a prompt and be done with it, that would lower your art's value, because that would make it again, a shit art. You can use it as a tool to lighten your work and avoid karpal tunel on the long run, but if you're too lazy with it by simply typing shit in, you won't grow as an artist because you are too dependent/using it wrongly on yourself.

5. Some say "It's bad because it is comercialized by big company", while I do agree with that, context, what about poor individuals who are too poor to pay an actual artist/no job and they just want to personally for fun such as D&D play or story telling? *What about people who have brain disability called Aphantasia* where they find it difficult to visualize/imagine something in their mind and need AI *as a general rough guide* on what art they want to make? What about people who simply cannot get better at art even tho they have studied it for 6 years because it is simply not their path but once again too poor but want to join simple fun with others? What about people who is too poor to pay for the art tools or especially human model? Context is important too, it can certainly be used for good personally, *it's bad when you make profit out of such stolen material and call yourself or your company an artist.* If you disregard the context then you are not defending the art world againts AI, you're just *an elitist, * this make you morally a bad person. It's a tool that is a double-edged sword, blame the people/company for using it badly. If you are taking AI away, even if it was hypothetically possible (it's not possible), you are excluding these less fortunate people with limitations the free opportunity to join the rest of art society and use this algorithm to improve robotics since our robots is bad lol.

So yes, it is here to stay as a tool, so to adapt as artist we must shun conpanies or people who make profit out of it instead, not beginner artist who's *creatively* just using every *free scrap* they can get to learn/self-taught, that is the only morally right way for the art world to survive. Ok that was a bit heavy moral discussion, let me make a joke to lighten the mood.

AI art maker: "I call it, the bold and rash"
Me to their shit low effort art: "More like, belong in the TRASH!"
