Many guitarists out there owe this guy a huge thanks for using his original chops. He was a groundbreaker of the highest order.

1) Wes’s legendary status is well deserved for sure 2) That’s what an L5 is supposed to sound like 3) … wow

What I admire most about Wes is the musicality of his solos. Countless jazz guitarists play solos that are essentially endless runs, arpeggios, and "licks". Wes' solos are like original compositions, with each note judiciously crafted in a weave of artistic creativity.

Harold's piano playing is extremely enjoyable.

In my opinion, it’s impossible for me not to love Mr. Wes Montgomery. I thank The Most High for allowing me to witness his phenomenal talent. The entire quartet is

God bless him! Today he would have been 100 years old! He is still one of my favorites … and then SRV … 😢

I started playing professionally in 1964 and bought every single Wes Montgomery album I could get my mitts on but because I lived in Florida at the time, local record stores didn’t stock them so the only ones available were the Oliver Nelson, Don Sebesky over-produced commercial ones and not the small ensemble Riverside Recordings. Plus, videos didn’t exist yet and there was no film of him playing so I never saw that thumb until many years later. I could not figure out how he played those fast lines with that massive digit. Now, on YouTube there are 12 year olds playing like this…..progress!

I can't believe that he got that picking speed using his thumb.

WES IS TO THIS DAY IMHO THE MOST NATURAL GUITARIST TO EVER PLAY THE INSTRUMENT SUCH A SOLID UNDERSTANDING OF MELODY TIMING AND FEEL AND STRUCTURE YET PLAYED IN AN OFF HANDED WAY SO CASUAL WITHOUT A CARE IN THE WORLD "MAGIC

The way he places the notes at the beginning of his chorus is incredible.

. THIS CAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN NUMBER 1. Owns the stage. Miles had the nerve to ask Wes join him.
They say Wes laughed him off and then Wes went to the stratosphere between 60-68. Right after his dynamic years at
Riverside.
