I was born in 1962 and President Kennedy was in office, then Johnston, but President Nixon was the first President I was "aware" of and followed in school. I remember feeling safe and assured whenever the Teacher would use his words and actions in our lesson. I remember the good he did do.

I noticed, from this speech, that politicians used to give speeches to get their points across, weather you agree with them or not. Most Politicians today want to lecture you because they know that you are wrong and they are right.

Eisenhower was beyond wise. Nixon is good to recognize that wisdom.

Nixon did far more for the USA than many give him credit. Nixon was the one who finally returned our soldiers home from Vietnam.
The military industrial complex was started during WWII and had gained strength during the Korean and Vietnam "conflicts." But it was Nixon who pushed to reign in runaway military spending and strengthen the peace to counter growing Soviet dominance by bringing China to the bargaining table. At the time, China and the Soviets were natural enemies. Nixon (and Henry Kissinger) also brokered the peace treaties between Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Israel that lasted fifty years.

Einsenhower was a man who saw into the future. Such a smart man. From the battlefield to policy.

I learned something today about Eisenhower's farewell address. Thanks, President Nixon, for adding the needed context.

As a Mexican I would like to say; TOO many people just remember Richard Nixon for Watergate (some Presidents, and potential Presidents, even since that time have conceivably done worse things) The attempted cover up was indeed a blunder. However, he possessed a keen insight into where the world was going, and acted accordingly. His stewardship of foreign policy was far superior to anything that EEUU have today.

“Tempted to risk his own destruction” subtly badass. Let me find out Eisenhower was the first to say “FAFO”
