iPad for Architects. Do you really need one?

Do you really need an iPad as an architect, an intern or student? See if any of the four use cases I came up with match yours. Having always sketched on paper + trace with a pencil and ink, a tablet never really appealed to me or seemed entirely useful. I just wasn’t sure how it would fit into my workflow. But, the Apple pencil and Procreate have changed my mind. The Apple pencil is what makes using the iPad such an irresistible experience for me. It bridges the divide between the analog and digital and when it's so seamlessly integrated with an app like Procreate that you forget you're not using the real thing, that's a remarkable feat.
It's more than just a digital sketchbook though, the utility of the iPad extends far beyond that. In this video you'll see all the ways I'm putting it to work in my residential architecture practice. It may just be the thing that helps you rekindle your love of hand sketching.

I really really appreciate this "dark mode" vibe you have for your sets these days. It really stands out from the usual lightings.

Eric, I am working really hard right now to become an architect and your videos are a constant source or hope and encouragement. Your commitment to excellence in all aspects astounding. I seriously cannot get enough of your content. Your architecture practice looks most like the one I want to build than any other out there, and it is because of you that my vision has found room to run. I love this particular video because all of the ways you have grown (in video production) are on display but you let down some of the formality you sometimes have, without being 'goofy'. So grateful for your work. Keep it up! One day I hope we will be peers!

I love how you may have accidentally become my new favorite tech reviewer lol. Such a pleasant watch. Really thorough and personal. Plus your editing style is top-notch as always! I'd love to see more of these in the future (hint-hint), keep it up!

I’m an architect, and I’ve been using the iPad Pro with Apple Pencil since the very first model was released. The apps I would recommend you try are:
- Notability (for marking PDFs. Very simple and syncs with your iPhone and Mac)
- Paper (simple sketchbook-like sketching app. Can sync with iPhone and allows for very quick, iterative sketching)
- Concepts (very, very powerful vector drawing app. Has scale tools and an infinite canvas)

Finally there is an architect reviews the workflow with iPad Pro. Very useful and beautiful information. I like it a lot.

That is the most cinematic review of an iPad that I’ve seen, or any device for that matter even though I watch a lot of reviews on cinema gear.

This is the most useful iPad pro review I've watched. Thank you. I'm a designer and illustrator looking to upgrade from a 2016 9.7" and just seeing you interacting with the 11" has solidified it as my choice over the 12.9". Thanks for taking us through your workflow!

I couldn’t agree more. Adapting a paperless work flow is interesting in college and has helped me stay on top of everything!

Intro: i really did not like this.

Video: mentions only positives and is really enthusiastic about it...

I'll be honest. I switched careers from Architecture to Visual Communication at the end of 2018, but looking at these sketches in procreate, and thinking of how much more efficient and minimal the workflow could be with the iPad makes me crave another shot with Architecture 😂
This is sleek as sleek gets, mate 🔥

I am always in awe of your ability to be so organized! That is one thing I struggle with. Being organized itself is not necessarily the most difficult part, but being organized in 'real-time' is. How do you stay organized in the midst of various projects and ideas? My mind seems to scrambly to take the few seconds to put pens back where they were or maintain any notion of order on my desk! It's definitely the number one 'skill' I (and maybe others) need to learn. Your sense of organization never ceases to amaze me

No nonsense, no fanboy, strictly professional review. I loved your perspective. Thank you.

This review and presentation was just Excellent! It demonstrates how a clear thinking architect is able to organize thoughts and create a beautiful presentation to boot. Timing was just right for me. As an old retired architect myself, your presentation provided exactly what I was searching for. Thank you for posting this.

I love your channel. Back in the mid-80s I went to college to study architecture. Though my life has taken a different turn — I am former 26-year attorney who now teaches yoga — I have never lost my interest in architecture and the work behind the scenes. Thanks for your great content.
