I've seen this with my garden maize too. When it isn't being dumped with insecticide like in the huge monoculture fields, various bees will come gather the pollen. I've seen sweat bees especially enjoy it

I’ve got a hazelnut, it’s contorted and known as harry lauders walking stick. It gets flowers, even nuts, but there’s no “meat” in them. I believe it’s sterile. I’ve planted hazelnuts years ago, but for some reason they don’t like my yard. In northern wisconsin, they’re everywhere, but the soil there is more acidic. My soil is crushed limestone.😂 (just kidding) But it is on the alkaline side. And I’ve found Polyphemus caterpillars on it!
