Making an algebraic rule from a simple pattern

Just a walkthrough creating an algebraic rule from a simple pattern. This sort of 'matchstick' patterns are well used in late primary and early secondary teaching.

Thank you so much. I'm a student teacher trying to make lesson plans for next week and I am finding that although I understand how to do this myself, trying to explain it is much harder. I think that breaking it down like this will be very helpful, though I'll work up to it rather than just going straight to the rule. We'll also use physical resources to help understand this rather than just working on paper. But thanks again I am stoked there was a video that explains it so succinctly.
