I've been accused of being a "pick me girl" many times, but what even is a "pick me girl"?

pick me girl used to just mean a woman who would demean and criticise other women for no reason other than to gain the attention of men. now a pick me girl is anyone someone doesn’t like. the irony is that the people now calling others pick me girls, have become the pick me girls themselves in doing that

Using “pick me girl” as an insult is just a means of discouraging women from holding women accountable. If I start a conversation about toxic femininity, which is a thing, it’s not because I want to support men over women, it’s because I believe that we, as women, need to be watching for opportunities to improve. Men should be doing the same.

To be fair, pick me girls DO "get picked" for a reason. This might seem like a foreign concept to some people, but men actually like having someone who values them and doesn't just project all their problems onto men.

I think the whole “pick me girl” accusation is a unique form of gaslighting.

“Pick me girl” simply a mask for women complaining about other women, but trying to pass it off as constructive criticism.

I got called a "pick me girl" for saying that avoiding places of ill repute and not engaging in promiscuous behavior is a form of protection and self-respect. Crazy, right? Has nothing to do with wanting male attention, in fact I was speaking of how to avoid it...

But i think i get it now. Its a way of saying "you disagree with my opinion on what a girl should think and do"... if a "race-traitor" is a conservative black person who acts "too white" than a Pick Me Girl is a girl who doesn't spout feminist garbage and doesn't hate men. In other words, they don't like that they can't controll what I believe.

That is why regular girls who criticize other girls for toxic behavior get called a "pick me girl" by other girls with actual problematic behavior, as an insult. Ahhh.... So they're actually projecting their own supposed "Pick Me" energy on to other girls when they feel bad about themselves? TOXIC.

As someone said in the comments
- It's pretty much used on any girl who isn't afraid to call out chicks on their bullshit and bad behavior. It's also cope language for thots....and feminists.

Was a tomboy, and still kind of am. Grew up being bullied almost exclusively by girls. Girl "friends" were always frienemies -made me into the DUFF or pursued my crushes for...the fun of it...I guess. They were always trying to one-up me. Always jealous, even when they socially and physically outranked me. Dudes just felt like home. I felt safe with men. I felt like me with men. I still do, and thankfully I've now found women I feel safe with too, but it took a long time for me to get over my fear, and to some extent, my hatred of women. It really wasn't until my mid 20's that I started warming up to women again, but I still prefer the company of men if I had to choose. If this all makes me a pick-me, then make me a name tag that says "pick-me" so everyone knows who I am and that I'm not changing.

So basically “Pick Me Girl, ” is a way for women to insult other women that don’t fit into female hivemind?

Whenever I’ve heard the term “internalized misogyny”, it’s almost exclusively used by self-proclaimed “feminists” to dismiss the opinions of other women. But is there anything quite as anti-feminist as degrading other women, devaluing their points of view, and silencing their voices? That would be an act of “external misogyny”, no?

Being a zoomer on tiktok, I've realized that "pick me girl" essentially means "a girl who is based."

She has conservative opinions, and therefore is liked by guys more because more guys are conservative by nature.
So other girls insult that girl by calling her a "pick me girl", as in saying "the only reason you believe women should dress modestly, or believe that rape culture isn't real is because you want to get picked by the men for saying what they want to hear."

These other videos that are being played are just girls trying to justify that the "pick me girl" exists outside of the political sphere, but it doesn't make any sense, because nobody really knows what a "pick me" girl is, it doesn't really exist-- it's just a way to put based women down.

What’s crazy to me is that literally anyone could fall victim to the pick me girl label. Are you quiet and feminine and sweet? Pick me. You’re only like that to please men. Are you an adventurous and daring tomboy with a traditionally masculine interest? Pick me. You’re only like that to impress men. There are people that actually are pick-mes and push others down to lift themselves up, but 90% of the time I think that the people calling someone a “pick me” are doing that exact thing. 🙄

So basically a “pick me girl” is any female that men would pick over them… I see.

I’m starting to think “pick me girl” just means a normal girl who they can’t convince to be either hyper feminist or non-binary

I’ve actually given this whole
“Pick me” girl trope some thought … and I’ve reached the conclusion that if you’re good looking and have an individual personality (liking music that’s not necessarily super known, enjoying things that are less common nowadays or having individual traits/thoughts that are not dictated by the masses) you will be called a pick me girl even though you never put other women down to seek male attention. And the reason why that happens is because some women can’t picture other women being different for any other reason than that one…. And that’s where the true misogyny lies if you ask me.

Brett is the girl we all pick but no, she’s not a pick me girl.

So, according to these commenters, a "pick me girl" is a negative thing, but "that one gay dude" in every group of shallow women is a positive. Gotcha.
