Pulling someone into the net against their will messes with their head so much. Even a meh drop shot often leads to an error because the opponent feels like they have to do too much. Coming to the net on your own terms has the same effect on an opponent

I remember when Federer early in his career didn’t think much of the drop shot, as if it was not a serious tennis shot, just a junk shot. Then later he became a master of it.
