Problem:
While installing a program, the user receives the following error message:
"The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory".

Solution:
1. manually create the required folder,
2. download the compressed registry file :

3. extract the contents to a folder you like,
5. go to the folder that you manually created, right-click on it, click "Take ownership"
6. try to continue the setup, click Retry.

I watched this video 6 years late, and this man is a GENIUS, THIS METHOD STILL WORKS, GOD BLESS THIS MAN! Btw, to all who still has an error, you have to make the folder where it says it has insufficient privileges to access the directory, and then take ownership of it.

Could be shorter video, but it is VERY USEFUL. The trick works. Don't forget the "take ownership" registry fix!

At 1:44 into the video, you clicked on the desktop file Take Ownership_Add.reg.  Where did this file come from, and how do I access it?

You are a life saver, THANK YOU! Couldn't find a decent answer to this anywhere I looked; glad I decided to check YouTube lol

No need for registry files.
I right click on "Oracle VM VirtualBox" folder and uncheck the read-only attribute.
In folder : Menu\Programs

"ProgramData" is a hidden folder, here is a video on how to show hidden files/folders:

It actually worked! Thanks.

(you can just take ownership of whole directory above the one you need)

Thanks. This helped me while installing VMware 14. I just had to create new folder manually.

Worked great man, thank you. I'm pretty handy with Windows tweaks and workarounds and this is the first time I've ever run into this problem (also with VirtualBox) it's probably an issue with the installation instructions themselves, but this works great! I have no clue why so many thumbs down on here

Still works eight years later. Used for Netgear Wifi Adapter installation. Note: I had to create at least three folders and take ownership of more than two dozen (every language in settings; go figure) before the install completed. The video shows only one before it works, but be aware that it may take a lot before the program you are trying to install finishes.
