This tool jig will be handy for those learning to sharpen drill bits by hand. As we all know, not everyone has the grinder available to properly sharpen bits. And if they do, maybe they just need to touch it up before drilling more. Sharpening bits by hand is an art of a craftsmen and takes practice to get good at it. I know, I worked in a small sawmill many years ago. We had very limited tooling available to us, a bit grinder was not one of them. If you dulled a bit or broke it, you were on your own. Try and wait until morning to tell the owner you didn't finish a repair because of a dull or broken drill bit!
I was lucky, I had several skilled and knowledgeable craftsmen teach and work with me to get proficient in re-sharpening drill bits. This tool he just made would have been appreciated in that process of learning. Nice little jig tool.

Nicely made. It works as an aid to sharpening a drill, but it has several shortcomings. It does not ensure the cutting lip lengths are the same. The operator has to measure the lips to make sure they are equal. The operator also has to manipulate the drill to generate clearance behind the cutting edges.
A consideration when grinding a twist drill is that the relief behind the cutting lip increases the closer you get to the center of the drill. That is what the cams in drill sharpening machines are for. Additionally, if the relief across the cutting lip is constant. the chisel point between the cutting lips will be too wide. This increases the force needed to push the drill into the work.

nice one! thought it was going to be easy though...I'm not a mechanical engineer with 100k's worth of other machines to produce this fine tool. just a humble carpenter with a drum sander, table saw, band saw etc. no computerised stuff. nice clip though 👍🏻

The drill bit clearance angles are missing, my friends.The cutting edges cuts and the swarf pig tails are passed under the clearance.Your sharpened drill bits are not producing long twin pigtails as a properly sharpened drill bits, do.Every 2nd."how to sharpen drill video" misses this very necessary point. For gosh sakes, consult a tool sharpening tool handbook to understand this.

This is ridiculous, just learn to sharpen by hand, you will have to grind clearance on the flutes by hand using this abomination of a idea anyway lmao
