When networks, systems, computers, or applications encounter disasters or failures, RTOs and RPOs are used for recovery and backups. RTO, or recovery time objective, is the maximum length of time a computer, system, network, or application can be down after a failure or disaster. RPO, or recovery point objective, is the age of the files that must be recovered from backup after a system failure or disaster. Ideally, RTO and RPO should be used to ensure that critical data and systems are available when needed.

How does your organization determine RTO and RPO values? Let us know in the comments, and hit that like button, too.

Thanks but you confused between RTO and MTD, the maximum length of time that a system could be down is the MTO or MTD, the RTO is the time objectif that your organization fixe to solve the issue, RTO should be <MTD, for a good BCP.
