Just got back from Japan 2 weeks ago. This was my 2nd time there, and I can't wait to go back. I put Japan as the #1 destination. Been following your channel for awhile. Thank you for the formative information you share on your channel.

I just bought plane tickets to visit Japan and Korea. The higher cost of the plane tickets balances out the savings on the exchange rate if you're lucky.

My eikaiwa job straight out of college, adjusted for 1997 exchange rate and US inflation, paid the present equivalent of US$4700/month. The very same job at the same company today is paying $1800/month. I wonder if young Japanese professionals moving abroad for better pay might eventually change the corporate culture of Japan when they come back.

It was 360 yen to the dollar in 1971 when I was in Japan! You are very young.

Exchange rate are really crazy. I‘m swiss and for 1 CHF I get 170 Yen currently.

I remember backing 2018 we were at around 113 Yen

Japan holidays are the cheapest ever and I hope with everything I spend I can help the japanese economy a little!

The rate briefly topped 160 yen to the dollar a few days ago. I live in Japan, but have always been paid in dollars. This kind of sucked back in 2012 when the rate was 75 yen to the dollar, but it feels pretty good now. The yen will likely strengthen if and when the Fed cuts rates.

AUD is basically dollar for dollar but it's the best it's been in years, which is good for Aussies 🎉

With the amount of debt that Japan govt is in, they can’t really raise rate to strengthen their currency without implode the debt service cost. They can intervene by selling their USD reserve and buying the yen on the open market to slow down the yen weakness. However, that is putting bandages on a sinking ship. They need the US to cut rates and make the dollar weaker. Japan imports over 95% of it consumed oil. It’s getting very expensive for Japanese with a weaker yens. The federal reserve thought they inflation is going down to their target and they was expecting multiple rate cut this year but inflation has resurface. No rate cut in the near future. US isn’t any better. It has more debt than any nation but it’s the cleanest shirt in a dirty laundry. All currency is losing their value. Dollars lose the least compare to other currency. Compare to hard assets, fiat currency is going down big time.

Thank you for this informative video! I watch the exchange rate with interest. My friends and I were in Japan a few weeks ago and while we enjoyed ourselves, I certainly feel for the residents, too. So I’ve been watching the exchange rate on a widget on my phone even after we’ve returned home, just to see the developments. On our first trip to Japan in 2010, the rate was something like 80-85 yen to the dollar. What a difference!

As a Canadian otaku, i'm enjoying the great currency exchange rate... $1CAD to ¥110 is super nice...But its pretty sad for Japanese people especially those abroad.

I'm planning on visiting Japan later this year to visit my son. £1 = 194 yen this morning.

So amazing to see the AUD at near parity to the JPY. JPY is one of the few currencies which the AUD is strong against. No surprise Australians are flocking to Japan.

If you're in Japan... PLEASE SPEND, SPEND, SPEND... THEIR BUSINESSES NEED IT!
EAT TILL YOU CAN'T EAT ANYMORE. BUT TILL YOU CAN'T FIT ANYMORE IN YOUR SUITCASES (UNDER 50 pounds)
I wish I ate more, bought more and spent more when I was there the weeks ago.
I LOVE JAPAN!

John, we just landed in Tokyo Station and my husband went out to find you and say hello. Are you going to restart the stream?

Not only was Japan a great overall vacation but the fact it was super affordable was just the cherry on top. Can't wait to go back 🙌🏼

John, please get one of those houses out in the country not too far away so you can grow a garden maybe have a little goats and chickens. You can always travel into the inner city and do your videos and live streams. Y’all can come in and do special events and shopping. But I definitely think that the time to grow food all across the world is now.

True that USD is stronger against the Yen, however, costs in Japan have been going up higher as well. Inflation in Japan is starting to tick upwards.

That means it will be cheaper for us Aussies when we go to Japan in May.
